tommyboy
I plan on getting a obsidian audio 18 ran off of a soundstream 2500.1 at either 4 ohm or 2 ohm (undecided) , but the problem I'm having is I want to put it in a console box (where the oem console used to be) ; my max dimensions are 15.5 wide by 36 deep and a height of 20 inches. Do you think it will some how fit within those dimensions can't go any wider because of the driver and passenger seats. It going to be in a 1997 dodge Ram 1500 ext cab
ToneDeaf2012
I have a 2004 ram 1500 reg cab and can only fit a 15". Right now my box is 16" wide and only 2cuft with an SQ HDC3 12". I just built a new box though that goes all the way to the back wall and is a little bit taller at 2.52cu, and 36hz. Im not sure how you would fit an 18" in there. Old box:
tommyboy
I'm thinking instead of a console box I could put in the back seat, but I have to take some measurements to see if I have enough airspace back their I don't want to take up the whole bench, need room for at least one other person. tommyboy
Ok well I just took some measurements and I got 35 wide by 30 tall by 20 deep which I think is plenty for one OA 18 (actually way more at about 12 cubes before displacements) so I think I'll make it about 18 long by 25 wide by 25 tall which gives me about 5.27 cubes before displacements Another question I have is would 2 6 inch aeroports suffice or would I need more Thanks

It going to be in a 1997 dodge Ram 1500 ext cab this dimensions give you 5.17cubes before sub and port displacements...you could probably get an enclosure around 4.5cubes which would be fine, but where you would mount the sub would be a bitch, since you only have room to mount it to the side of the box facing the seat...and with excursion it would hit the seat... you could do a single 15 in that same area facing up and port back without a problem... http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)
tommyboy
Do you think k if I made the box wider and Made the length a little shorter it wouldn't hit the seat because I measured 20 from my seat In a normal driving position to the back wall. Say I made it 15" long and widened it to about 30 which gives me 5.23 cubes would that work and what diameter port should I go with I was thinking a 6" aero Thanks
stroupe79
do you have a 60/40 rear bench that your going to remove part of to put an enclosure where part of the seat goes? 2 6" aeros will work if they are long enough to tune it where you want... 25h x 26w x 20d 1 extra baffle, 2 6" aeros at 17 inches gives you 5cubes at just under 36hz this is with port to the side and sub facing foward, tuning raises a little with sub or port up this is to give you an idea of how much length of 6" aero you'll need http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)
stroupe79
just saw your post....you could do 25h x 35w x 15d with the extra baffle, 2 6" aeros at 17 and be at a hair under 5cubes with just over 36hz tuning displacement of the sub is .25 for the 18 and then the ports will knock another .5cube off your volume....you'll want a 2nd baffle to help stiffen up the box, as well you probably want to put some dowel rod bracing inside to tie the sides together to prevent the box from flexing... http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)
tommyboy
Thanks man that's probably what I'll do I had a 15 mtx that I somehow halfway blew (leads are all f'ed up thought it was blown cuz I saw smoke coming out the port) and I'm running that temp while I wait for the 18 thanks again man
Big-A
the only way to make the center console work would be to flare the box after the seats. Ive built 2 consoles recently, one 1.75 at 33 for my OA12 and another thats for a 15 is 3.85cuft. I wanted an Obsidian OA-18 real bad but just couldnt fit it in the console without fiberglassing the back half. 2004 Dodge Ram Head unit- Alpine iDA-x305s Sound processor- Clarion eqs746 Mids/Highs amp- Alpine MRV-F345 Sub Amp- Alpine MRD-M1005 Dash Speakers- (3) Dayton Audio rs75 Front Door- Skar SPX65c Rear fill- Skar SPX tweters and Dayton ND140 midbass Sub- Fi Audio SSD 15 high QTS SHCA power/ground cables and Stinger interconnect XS power D6500 under the hood and D680 in the amp rack Big 3+ with SHCA http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/161174-dodge-ram-quad-cab-fi-ssd15-skar-audio-alpine-shca/?p=2326251
