I need help estimating wire gauge.

Recommended Posts

what up,

I came up on some copper wiring today... legitimately :ehh::)

I have here two unknown thicknesses of wire: one more flexible with many more, thinner, strands, and the other which is very stiff but is really packed with copper. Both wires are salvaged from totaled BMWs and have German brand names on them.

Included is the picture I took. From left to right the wires are: 1) Audio Technix OFC 1/0 cable (the most flexible) 2) The smaller BMW wire with many strands 3) The thickest and heaviest of the group. The strands are large, almost like packing a bunch of 22 gauge wires together, and the wire itself is very stiff and not flexible.

For your opinions and thoughts, what would your estimation be on wire gauge? They're obviously thicker than 1/0, but i've never seen 2/0 or 3/0, so I can't make that claim.

Thanks!

Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.
