afrakes Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I'm planning a system rebuild in my blazer which will include a single fi q 15, 4 cu ft box@30 hz., still deciding on the amp itself but something rated at roughly 2000 rms @ 1 ohm. Right now all my electrical is stock, so with this build I will be upgrading the battery under the hood, big 3, 1/0 run to the back possibly to a distribution block depending on the size wire the amp accepts. So my question is along with my current plans I will be getting either a second battery in the back or a 270-300 amp h/o alternator. Because of the cost I would much rather buy a second battery but what do you guys think? My stock alternator is only 100 amps and I'm just not sure if 2 battery's will be enough to keep up with the output of this system. What's the consensus? Thanks in advance. Achaleon Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 If you watch the volts closely and dont listen to it at max for more than a few minutes at a time... Yeah you will still need an alternator. How much research have you done, there might be a cheap OEM upgrade... And for what its worth, if you are looking for a 2k rms amp it should have 1/0 power inputs. Dont go cheap on the amp

afrakes Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 Alright I'm looking at amps from dc, sundown, Rockford, soundqubed, etc. but I'm looking to buy the amp used and the sub new. I like playing full tilt for long periods of time as my daily commute is over an hour each way. Do u think the alt and upgraded batt under the hood would even be enough? It's not a huge battery even because in these trucks they have the smaller side post battery's only. Or will I new the additional battery and the ho alt to be able to do what I want with it?? Achaleon Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 Those amps at that wattage, you're looking at 270a alt and a xspower d3400 under the hood and thats a good start. Shit gets expensive real fast when you break the 1k watt barrier
Achaleon Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 With that said, i have seen ppl run those amps with a factory 150+ alt and 100AH battery. But not for an hour, in short bursts
jaelliott9 Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 i have a stock 140 amp alt and the stock bat in front and a xs power d3400 in back and my voltage never drops below 13.3 charging at idle is 13.9-14. and im running a kicker zx2500.1
afrakes Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 I guess this is going to be a much longer buil process than I anticipated. Just adding the numbers in my head I'm at $2k easily lol. Electrical first, then equipment! afrakes Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 And what's the OEM upgrade you were talking about? I have to say I have never herd if that before now. Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
