Battery is fried... But before I replace it. What happened?

Recommended Posts

Ask them, I don't want to put words in there mouth. :)

And yes external reg you can go as low as 13.8 if you wanted to which is perfectly fine. I have mine set at 14.3 for daily driving, never moves, hot or cold.

Ok good. My big concern was that I don't want to replace the batteries just to have the same issue happen again. I don't have that money laying around lol.

PMing Kyle right now

Quick update on things. The battery wouldn't even turn my car over when "cold." Think 30 degrees or so

Put a 130a load tester on it and it dropped to 5v with a clamped 47 amp load lol.

I had an epiphany. These aren't sealed batteries - they are VRLA batteries. That means they have a hole somewhere. So I popped off the cover, pulled off the valve covers, put about 110ml of distilled water in each cell.

Then I hooked it up to the charger. Charging at 14.8v, it was only taking in around 5a of current. Well, I left it and came back a half hour later and it was taking in 20-25a of current.

Who says you can't add water to an agm battery :twirl:
