I'm willing to spend the money. I just don't want to buy the wrong thing and have to replace it. I'm also a big fan of hooking a system like this up right to get its full potential

You definitely have the right attitude! To many people just a throw and amp, sub, and box in their car with some wiring and go with it.

He means you'll need 2 runs of positive wire and 2 runs of negative. But you won't. You'll be fine with 2 total runs of 1/0 from front to back.

1 run for power, one for ground.

Oh and by the way, if I remember correctly, one of the VU meters is a voltage indicator, proving that you do need to up your electrical.
