big three question

Whats up SMD! My names Collin, im 16 about to turn 17 and im looking to do an electrical upgrade under the hood of my jeep. Sorry to use my first post ever on annoying ya'll about something ya'll probably have to answer all the time but I just cant seem to grasp the "engine block to chassis ground" part of the big three. Ive done some internet searching on it and I have to alternator to battery positive part down and the battery negative to chassis ground part down so im golden on those parts but I was just wondering if I just put one terminal of the wire on any bolt anywhere on the engine and then the other to chassis? Or am I supposed to be looking for a pre-existing ground wire that's already there and add to it? Sorry for the long post and please go easy on me, im still a kid haha

You can replace or add to. Honestly that part does not matter.

Use 1/0 for the big 3.

One from teh alt to the batt (+)

One from the batt to the chassis (-)

One from the batt to the block (-)

Im running the big 5. You can never have too many grounds

Holy crap the first person to reply to me was carbon! haha Sorry but im a big fan of you, you're the man. But lets say I just run a wire from the battery negative to like a bolt to the alternator mount, would that be ok?

Also when we say engine block, you could ground to the alternator case. I feel that is more efficient than just grounding to the engine. Give me a second, I'll link you to a good thread.

Thank you man! I appreciate the support! And Yes, that is actually the whole point of going to the engine block is to return the current to the alt case.

Alright guys thanks for all the help I really appreciate it, and thanks for the links i'll probably keep them in another tab and read over them a few times. And just so I don't open another thread for this, would ya'll recommend some sort of "wire looming" or whatever its called to kind of protect the wires a little bit?

I highly recommend tech flex if you wish to sleeve the wire under the hood!
