hey everyone!

never had this happen before, but we are using passive high pass filters in our van between our amp and tweeters. They get unbelievably hot, to the point to where the coil on them turned black and we had to stop using them. Anyone have this happen before or have a clue why? or what I need to do differently?

Im using Selenium ST-200 tweeters and an audiobahn mono block amp that plays all frequency for my front doors because my other amp took a dump. The first set of bass blockers we ordered on ebay and they were like 3$ lol, and one of them exploded like a fire cracker. The second set we had we just got from a friend of ours and they are a little better. I could take a pic or something if you guys want...but they started smoking and the coils on them turned black. Ive got the nicer crescendo ones on the way, but Im trying to figure out why this is happening. The audiobahn amp is crossed over at around 40 hz. The rest is left up to the tweeter crossovers.

My guess would be clipping the death out of them or very over powered.

over powered, and to low of a freq to them. They are not getting a real signal. if you can go full range to the crossover would be good. and how much power are you giving them?

What is the model of the audiobahn amp. Many monoblocks are only capable of playing up to 500 hz. Sounds like they are being overpowered. Take pics of the cap, amp, and settings please.

Model is the Audiobahn HCQ 1300. It definitely does play fulll range. It has been sounding great for a couple months. Pictures to come tomorrow! Ive got some much nicer crescendo crossovers on the way and im going to switch out with them to see if we still have a problem or not.
