Owen Hix
I am installing 2 XS D3100's in my 05 colorado for a little more juice. I would feel better with running fuse blocks along with them and my question is: My wire is rated at 250 amp load. Will the amperage between the batteries be more than that? My next question is with the final battery/amp. I am running a DC 3.5k at 1 ohm which is a 300 amp load. Since my wire is only rated at 250, can I get a set of toolmaker dual input/ground, and do 2 runs and use a 150 amp fuse on each run to the amp? kinda feel stupid for asking but dont really wanna burn my truck up. ToNasty
no, each wire shpuld still be a 250 amp fuse. your fusing the wire not anything else ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
Owen Hix
well i thought it was also protecting the amp kinda too. i understand the wire thing. but will the 2 run thing work so im not pulling 300 on just a single wire? -05 Chevy Colorado- Kenwood KDC-352U Headunit Skar VXI-65 front component speakers Polk DXi650 rear speakers Alpine MRP-F300 4 chan. ToNasty
how long is the run from your batt to the 3.5k? ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers

NancyDrew
Uhm, Amperage does not split in half to travel down a second wire. What Electricity does do is take the path of least resistance. UPGRADE your wire decreasing the resistance in which the electrons will travel. What this does is create less heat, as energy is used it gives off heat which is your enemy. Put it this way, all day, everyday according to the N.E.C you can run 3 phase 60A load AC on 10 Awg wire (3 runs of wire). However electricity is flowing through all 3 but not in the same direction.Dc however is different. This is why the standard is AC not DC. DC when ran drops voltage for every foot as it does not have the driving force as AC. So when dealing with DC wire bigger is better because it needs less Resistance to get the required results in the end. If these amps ran off AC we could run 6 AWG all day and save a ton of money. it will not allow you to increase your amperage because you use 2 smaller wires then what you really need as the resistance in the 2 wires will be about the same.. Take 2 resistors place them side by side twist the wires together measure the resistance, now measure the resistance of just one of the resistors and see what the difference is. Same principle. You get 12v through each wire, the current is still the same, decreasing resistance is what you need.
