sourdsul Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 I am currently running a AQ 2200 at .5 ohm on a stock 150 amp alt and a d1200 battery and a new battery under d hood My amp gets hot at times and I believe it may be my electrical not being strong enough to support it. I had a lighter volt meter and it showed no voltage drop and my voltage stayed above 14 at all times.. So I assume that the meter is inaccurate and I must be dropping voltage. What electrical (batteries, alternator) would you recommend for this 3000 watt system?
__d_a_v_i_d__ Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 i ran a sundown 3k at 0.5 with 2 batts and a 270xp amp. it was plenty happy ! you with 1 bat, stock alt. i doubt you're staying at 14 at 0.5. thats alot of strain in the alt.... i recommend. biggest alt you can fit in your car. better safe. you'll most likly want a bigger amp later on in life so why not start saving... and 2 agm batts. I think ami clamped over 3k out of 1 @ 0.7, I don't think people think about box rise sometimes. Ami's was nominal I believe. Most people think that 0.5 will give them same results. My build 98 s10 2.2 3 american bass HD 15s with psi soft parts. (on there way here) atomic at-3000.1 (soon) 146.2 outlaw @39hz., bad alt an bad batt when termed (old 2 12" build) alpine 6.5s in doors infinty 4x6s in dash. clarion cz201 HU. mechman 240a H/O alt stuff i still need. SHCA 2/0 wire SHCA 1/0 to 2/0 adapters Atomic AT-3000.1 Lots of sound deadner new mids an highs, still debating on what to do. A few Deka g31 batts.

Amps under rated and wired .5 ohm puts off around 3k To be honest. Unless that is nominal or u have very little box rise you are not getting 3k out of that amp. You are probably getting about 1500 at most out of that amp with your voltage drop, mayb even less power. My build 98 s10 2.2 3 american bass HD 15s with psi soft parts. sourdsul Posted May 1, 2013 Author Report Posted May 1, 2013 well can voltage dropping that much cause the amp to clip easier? because the coil cooks easily on a 2k rms hdc4 im assuming the amp is clipping causing that
