Guest
I got rid of two 15 L7 s for two 18s obsidians and i am very impressed great subs for the price and dont let the 2.5 coil scare u off they can handle plenty on power "plenty"...its just a 600w driver. idk why people are thinking these woofers are like new-age sliced bread. no matter what a company does to make it "run better", the 2.5" coil wont be able to handle the power that a 3" can. physics dictates that it wont happen. and again, for the budget money OP has, 2.5" coils are useless in my eyes. if he only had a grand to spend, i'd say go for those types of woofers. ZAPCO209
They can easily take over 1000 watts on a daily basis, plenty of people already proved that including myself THE DRIVING FORCE
Guest
I'm new to all the technology about subs now what's the deal w the voice coils the bigger the voice coil, the better the heat dissipation due to the larger surface area. bigger voice coils can handle more power. the baddest 2.5's are limited to like 1000rms. 3's can handle up to like 2500rms usually. 4's are slightly higher. edit: these are kind of rough figures, so dont take them to heart. just gives you an idea of how typically the bigger the coil the higher the power handling. Guest
two of these in D1 configuration. http://www.soundqubed.com/HDC318-Copper-Coil-Subwoofer_p_25.html one of these. http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-3500D1-Amplifier_p_32.html $1,417. leaves 1,600 left for electrical upgrades and wire and shit. edit: mind you, you dont have to go with what i say. its just a recommendation. but the performance to price ratio from those products is through the roof (meaning good, not bad lol) in my opinion. brendanthekid
or you could do 2 hdc4 18's http://www.soundqubed.com/HDC418-D1-A-_p_137.html they handle 2000w rms which is twice the hdc3's and have 4 inch coils instead of 3 inch and the q1-3500 http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-3500D1-Amplifier_p_32.html which puts out 4300w rms at 14.4 volts 1 ohm but DAMN those black women are fucking scary facebook.com/brendan.laliberte.

Airborne
coils can have the same amount of winding and be half an inch smaller, but the OP wasn't looking for some monster subs. I say the SA line from Sundown is a FINE woofer and it will still leave dude some room to grab a good alt, wire, alt etc...
