Kranny. the clipping isnt always that easy to detect with the scope. My dd-1 went off 1 volume level before my o-scope detected the wave getting flattened out. I even zoomed in on the peak and valley of the wave to see it better but the dd-1 won every time. And setting the x-overs with the old voltage method is horribly inaccurate. Don't do it.

clipping is where the top of the waves get chopped off.

"fuzziness" in the signal is distortion. cant explain it at all, but yeah lol.

thats how i've been reading it with all those posts/threads by the big guys.

edit: you're not clipping at volume 1. thats distortion. unless your headunit outputted full preout voltage at the first click or something haha. all clipping is distortion, but not all distortion is clipping.

i think he was saying that the detector got it 1 level before the oscope did. so not volume 1 but the detector got it at 59 where as the scope got it at 60.

i will consider the package then, i was hoping to not spend quite so much on these tools but perhaps i will get more use than i think out of them.

i see your point with the bi amp, the tweets came with crossovers but they just do not seem to be doing hte job. they are alpine R components but the mids blew out so im only on the tweets now. im considering buying some polks to replace them as im told they are a better product.

if not a bi amp then an active cross over or a signal processor? would i want one to just run the tweets with or would i want one to set upper and lower limits on every component in the system from tweets to 10" mids, 6.5" mids, super tweets, and sub? if so how much would it cost to get a 4 way cross over? if its even necessary...

DD1 SUPER simple and worth the money in the long run. charge your friends to make their systems distortion free too. haha
