ncc74656 Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 i want to rebuild my system and this time i want to tune it properly. if i buy an analog o scope what is the procedure for settings gains on an amp to ensure you do not have clipping? i want to do this for mids, highs, and subs. nothing, gutted

ncc74656 Posted May 17, 2013 Author Report Posted May 17, 2013 i found the 150 dd1, the link i clicked on was for the triple pack. at 150 thats better but craigslist has oscopes for 40 bucks, the old analog versions. id prefer analog to digital and id like to see the sine wave as opposed to a red dot. how accurate is the dd1? if i went with an oscope what would i need to test it, i couldnt put the scope right to the terminals as i would need a load, run it with the sub? nothing, gutted
kickass audio Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 You just play a test track like the ones from damoreengineering.com that they have for the DD-1 and set the gain while looking at the o-scope to see when the peak and valley of the sine wave remain rounded. You don't want to see it get flattened out as that is clipping. Now if you were going to want better detection id recommend the dd-1 as it detects both distortion and clipping. Its hard to detect distortion though with an o-scope as it is usually so fast the scope can't pick it up. ncc74656 Posted May 17, 2013 Author Report Posted May 17, 2013 i have been debating on the cross over side of things. currently i use my amps and deck for that, basic 4 selection frequencies on the deck and HPF/LPF on the amps. (kicker and MTX). my thoughts were to maybe buy a better deck with the 16 channel EQ and upper and lower xovers built in for each RCA. OR maybe keeping this deck and buying a really nice Xover that will handle 3 ins and outs for lows/mids/highs. my current deck is 4V and the new one would be 5V but im not sure if it really matters, maybe keeping this deck and going with a signal processor is the best choice. in either case id just like for once to know if my amps are truly maxing or not. nothing, gutted
