Coolwazabi Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Well I was doing the big 3 and noticed some oil smell. Looked around the general area and seen this. And thought... that isn't good... leaky head gasket ?? Then decided to look around more just to double check and see if anything looks odd..... IT CONNECTS TO THIS Found that unplugged and thought that was odd... and couldn't be good... Then looked at the leaky oil *possible head gasket* and seen this pipe looking thing... So just wondering what should I do and if its a problem or just general stuff being that the car is old ??? Quote

That sounds like the rev limiter (it kicks in to prevent your from reving the engine at 5-6K rpm's which is harmful to the engine. I see more green then brown, Im looking at the pics, and its almost looking like maybe the waterpump gasket. All of my caddys Ive had dripped a little oil here and there. If your really concerned, Id do a oil change, and check your oil for antifreeze. If theres no antifreeze in the oil, you will know that you dont have a cracked head which is a bonus Quote

audiofanaticz Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Is that the waterpump in this picture? just looking at how whatever that is bults up, and where the leak is (id say that is not a head gasket). Which Im seeing green and assuming its antifreeze comming from the waterpump gasket. That is looking like the oil breather. It should be connected but if its not, it wont hurt anything except getting a dirty engine. Ive heard that the those 4.9s like what you got are the 1st generation northstar engines. Not sure if its true. They are pretty strong motors, the caddy engine that Id stay away from is the 4.1 v8 (4100). Those things are notorious for problems, had one in my first car I bought 86 seville. I dont think Id be too worried about it. Just keep an eye on your coolant and oil. Quote

Much shouldnt get into the engine unless you drive around with the hood open but id leave it plugged back in like you did Quote
