xxthugaxx Posted June 1, 2013 Report Posted June 1, 2013 i have a 86 Crown vic with a 5.0 and my alternator has a plug with 3 wires for the output.. so i want to know what can i do or to just buy differebt alternator with one cable...

Big 3 = 3 wires 1. positive wire from alt output to batt pos 2. negative alternator case to frame/chassis ground (clean sanded metal) 3. negative frame/chassis ground to battery negative add those wire to what is already there. use 1/0 preferably ofc - cca is fine if that is what you have already. Guest DC Power Kyle Posted June 2, 2013 Report Posted June 2, 2013 Actually tarball you're wrong. The two large wires on that plug are actually the output (B+). (Ford had the amazingly stupid idea to do this) OP, your stock alternator is a lost cause. You'll need to convert to a newer alternator and cut the wires and put ring terminals on it.
