This is a repost from the Amps sub-forum. I just realized the question is more suited for this forum.. Mods please delete the previous thread.. sry..

NEWAYZ.. I found an amp I had from about 10 years ago.

Power Acoustik HK800-2X.

The only information I've been able to find on this amp is it can do 190x2 RMS. (Not sure if this is the real specs or "manufacturer's specs")

These are the other parts I'm working with:

Vehicle - 2012 Mazda3

HU - Pioneer DEH-80PRS[

Front - DLS UP6i Mids rated for 150RMS, Tweeters 50RMS

Amp - JL xd400/4

Sub - JL 12W02 75-300RMS

I'm trying to choose between these 3 possible setups:

1. Not using PA Amp

2-way split at the headunit (Lows + Mids/Highs) --->

JL XD400 4 channel amp

ch1+2 @ 75RMS = mids/highs

ch3+4 @ 200RMS (bridged) = sub

2. Using PA Amp - components at 200rms

2-way split at headunit (lows + Mids/Highs)---->

JL XD400 4 channel amp

ch1/2+3/4 @200RMS = mids/highs

PA HK800 2channel amp

ch1+2 @ 380(bridged) = sub

3. Using PA Amp - components at 75rms

3-way split at headunit (lows + Mids + Highs)---->

JL XD400 4 channel amp

ch1+2 @75RMS = highs

ch3+4 @75RMS = mids

PA HK800 2channel amp

ch1+2 @ 380(bridged) = sub

I'm a giant newb with this stuff, so forgive me if there's missing information.

My biggest concern is not damaging the speakers, followed by achieving the best sound quality. I don't really want to spend any more money, so if one or more of these 3 scenarios 'works' and isn't going to cause clipping or distortion, I'm content.

Thoughts?

I would definitely go with option 3 bi amping your component set. If that PA amp does anywhere near rated it should sound pretty good in a hatch with that sub. Ideally you would want a monoblock but it should still work. What is the fuse rating on the PA amp?

2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L

Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS

Knu OFC 1/0

SS Platinum AGM / XS Power XP750

Alpine PDX F-4 / Morel Maximo 5 + Coax 5

IA 10.1 / SSA XCON 12

That's great. Option 3 is really what I am hoping to do. I can't check the fuse rating cuz the amp is sitting in my parent's basement. I'm picking it up on Friday.

Could someone point me towards something that tells me how to set the gains correctly. I'm going to attempt to install this stuff myself and I am very concerned with not doing damage to the speakers.

I've been told that I need to worry about this amp not putting out the power it claims. It is a pretty cheap amp and I don't really understand 'clipping' well enough to know if I'd be able to recognize it if it was happening.. Could I do damage to the sub without realizing?
