Marine Electrical Help

Recommended Posts

So I just bought a new boat, and it has a deep cycle marine battery to start the motor, but I also purchased an XS Power battery to run the electric trolling motor I bought. I obviously wanna keep the XS battery charged so I can run the trolling motor so I want to wire the XS battery to the deep cycle so it will charge. My question is do I need 0 gauge to do that or will 4 work? and do I need a battery isolator?

Thanks guys!

Wire depends on how far apart the batteries will be. I'd just use 1/0 if it was my boat. I believe you want an isolator to keep your starting battery good to start the boat. I've used my trolling motor on mine till it was almost dead and never worried about not being able to start the boat.

Not sure. My boat has one from the factory. Never actually installed one. Sure someone will jump in here and help you more

I actually decided I'd just get a battery cutoff.

Appreciate all the help!

Alright so I just realized that an alt on an outboard is internal. Puts out like 18 amps. That means all I could do stereo wise is a HU and some speakers no amps. Correct?
