Andrew Patterson
hey guys, I use to have a Tahoe back a few years ago, when Resonant engineering first came out with the HC 15's and I did a CRX style box (subs up slot port towards back) and it was a great setup on 2 JBL 1200.1 amps, did a 157.3 on a stock alternator. Well I have a friend who got the same type Tahoe, which is a 1998 and prior style. And he has 2 kicker L7 15” dual 2-ohm subs that are year 2008 models. And I told him I would help him build the box, but I have misplaced all of my design stuff and honestly a little rusty at designing a box and was wondering if you people could help me. Like I said, going in a Tahoe, I would call it a street setup / hood vehicle, aka big rims, way too many interior speakers, and he wants to hit hard like hell. but I’m trying to make sure it’s done correctly and not end up on one of Steve’s redo videos :-p . If I had to guess, each DVC will be paralleled down to 1 ohm each speaker, and not sure if he is running a single amp or dual amps, as that will determine how the rest of it is wired up. Update: Just found out that hes running a Power Acoustik BAMF5500/1D (specs: http://www.poweracoustik.com/pa2012/amps-bamf-5500-1d.html ) If you guys might have any plans already drawn up or can recommend the most efficient box for this setup I would appreciate it. I would say it will be ported since he will gain the 3db right off the bat. I think the resonant freq of the Tahoe is 37 or 42hz, from what I can remember it will fit between the wheel wells which are 48 or 49" in between, I don’t remember the depth from the top of the back seat to the rear doors and guessing he will want to be able to see out the back with the box. Sorry if there is not enough information or it seems trivial, but since I had high SPL systems for many years the hearing started to go so I sold off everything and only run a single prefab ported 12 in the trunk. Gone are the days of 8 PPI piston 10s in a 1989 Toyota extended cab during my HS years. last program i used was blaubox if that tells you how far behind i am according to kicker the specs for the subs are http://www.kicker.com/sites/default/files/SoloBaricL7TechManual.pdf : S15L7 model 08S15L72 Compact 3.0 cu.ft. + port; 2.5x16.25" port, 19.5" long Power Handling =1000W RMS Street Bass - 4.5 cu.ft. + port, 3x16.25" port, 14.75" long Power Handling = 1000W RMS SPL / Deep Bass 6.0 cu.ft. + port; 3.5X16.25"port, 13.75"long Power Handling = 1000W RMS the Thiele/Small Parameters Model S15L72Nominal Impedance 4(Coils in series)SPL 1W/1M 88.5Displacement, cc 4530Displacement, CuIn 276.5Mounting Depth 8-3/16Revc 3.57VC Inductance, mH 4.75Sd, SqM 0.1056BL 19.348Vas, Liters 129.559Vas, CuFt 4.58Mms, gms 384.1Fs 22.6Qms 12.452Qes 0.519Qts 0.498Pmax, watts 1000Xmax, mm 16.
john253a
You need some measurement to work with I just hope you have close to 50x28x28 to work with as that's about where you need to be for 2x L715
Andrew Patterson
It's looking like 48w x 22h x 24 d with a tuning of 35hz , just now need to figure out port dimensions.
john253a
At 24d how close is that to rear wall you'll need at least 4-6" depending on port size Are you intersted in using area ports?
