Swampy Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 I plan on installing nvx bulk 80 sq ft pack from sonic at 100% coverage in my explorer. I was curious how the MLV works, whether it is necessary, and details on how to install it along with the damping material. If MLV is essential to sound deadening, I plan on going with secondskins version that already has the closed-cell foam layer engineered into the design. Thanks for any input. I don't claim to know how to solve anything, I just practice the basics. There is nothing worse than wasting hours over a problem that should have taken 5 mins. Anything I post and claim to know, I know simply because of a lesson learned from a mistake on my part.
Skullz Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 MLV is more a sound barrier than deadener and can reduce noise by quite a bit, and with the SS version you'll get the max effect out of it reducing outside noises a lot. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2

Will I gain a noticeable dB raise with a layer of MLV vs just having the nvx deadener? Or is it just more of a thing I can do to basically overkill what I'm going for? BC I don't want to waste money and time on the top of the line MLV if it won't make much of a noticeable difference with or without it.
