SA-12 amp

I am thinking that this amp is not enough power for the SA-12 as I have to turn the gain up quite a bit to get good bass. I would assume the amp is clipping when I do this? I usually have the input voltage between the 1 and 0.5 volts. My deck supposedly has a 2v preout. Though the amp never gets hot and the dust cap on the sub is only slightly warm to the touch sometimes, and I mean just slightly. Am I going to damage the sub like this? What would be a good amp for me under $200? Thanks in advance.

Also, regarding placement in the trunk, is it better to have the sub as close to the rear as possible?

You could be clipping the amp by turning your gain up too much and damaging the sub. It may sound like its getting louder, but you could also be clipping. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just don't turn your gain wide open. Turning it up all the way doesn't really mean your getting the most power out of it anyways. That's not too shabby of an amp for that sub for the price range but you could do better. Do you know what ohm load you wired your sub to?

It's at 2 ohms. Jeezus it was $120 when I got it and now it's $200.
