Hi guys,

I'm doing some research and how to get the best sound out of my setup and have been debating on adding an EQ. I'm looking at the clarion EQS and have a couple of questions. I searched already, but none of the threads really answered my questions. First of all this EQ says it puts out 7 volts of signal to the amps. Is that dependent on the volume level that you have set on the EQ?? I wouldn't want to use the whole seven volts because my DC amp is only good for about 6 volts input. Also is the sub level control on the EQ almost like a gain knob setting? It allows you to adjust the subwoofer volume within the constrains of your gain settings I know, but will it allow me to adjust the subwoofer volume up and down? If so that would be awesome because it would be almost like a bass knob. Third if you have an EQ do you still set the crossovers on the amp? Or does the setting from the EQ dictate what signal will be inputted? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

No clue if you can limit the output voltage. I installed one in my friends car and one in a boat. They are a good basic EQ. Very simple to tune to get good sound. You can adjust your volume and sub separately.

I sold my personal one and went with a 3sixty3 though,

Thanks for the response carbon, yeah that 3sixty.3 is nice, but a little too expensive for me, lol. I will own one one day though....

I would like to see what people think of running this eq too

Yeah I know they're a good unit though some people use them if they're running just an ipad as a headunit or something like that and others use them for pa speaker installs which is what I'm in the process of upgrading too. It just depends on what you want but I've head nothing but good reviews about these units.

Okay let's start at the beginning. The Clarion is a pretty decent eq and is easy to use. The 7 volts you mentioned is the peak. It will more likely be outputting 3-5 volts. If you aren't sure the amp can take it; hit up one of the DC rep's on here. That 6 volt spec you mentioned does sound a little low though. The sub level isn't like a gain knob but more like a pac-lc1 that adjusts the outgoing voltage through the rca's. I set the gain on my sub amplifier and I use the clarion to adjust bass from track to track without changing the volume. I have the head unit set u the same way. I have it set to a certain volume and use the clarion as my master volume control too.

You will still need a crossover for the speakers. What kind do you have?

Thank you that pretty much answered my questions right there. I have all re audio coaxials so they don't have passive crossovers just the capacitor in line to the tweet. I just have them crossed on the amp to where they aren't playing out of their range but I forgot what I crossed them at because I haven't touched the amp settings since I installed them in january. I'm going to be upgrading to some crescendo pwx 10's and some soundqubed super tweeters soon though on two seperate amps and wanted that little extra control. That sounds awesome so with the clarion you never have to touch your headunit except to select music which is just what I wanted. And I was hoping that was only a peak rating as I know a lot of amps only input up to 6 volts matter of fact my Hifonics BRZ1700 was the first amp I had that went above 6 volts it could accept 9 volts input.

I appreciate the input and will definitely be ordering one of these units soon!
