JustinWillmon
I pulled the vinyl off the dash in my 73 chevy and underneath is a metal skelton of the dash.I'm going to fiberglass the whole dash but I'm not sure what to attach the fleece to the dash with. I'm thinking just wrap it and use glue? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to attach the material to metal.
79 cutty
Either glue or hot glue it to the metal, or make a mdf skeleton first and attach the fabric to that skeleton. 87chevyboi
Hot glue is what ive always used and it turns out great for me, if you do wood then hot glue and staples... JustinWillmon
Okay I was thinking of just using some of the spray glue like the headliner glue, but I wasn't sure if once I layed the fiberglass if it would mess up.
79 cutty
You can use that to get the fabric in place, but once it's where you want it you should hot glue or CA glue it. The spray glue doesn't always hold up to the fiberglass as it sets up Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking! You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. JustinWillmon
alright thanks ill get some hot glue and do all around the edges. That should work shouldnt it?
79 cutty
Should do the trick. Be smart about mixing the resin though, if you mix it too hot it can warm up the glue enough to warp the fabric. But either CA or hot glue should work Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking! You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. Jessica
I've been doing a bit of fiberglassing lately. I'm no expert but I have noticed that the directions say mix X number of drops of catalyst with X ounces of resin. The problem is, what is a drop? Are you going to use a straight pin to puncture the tube, the tip of a screw, nail? If you havent used fiberglass before make a 2 ounce batch. mix pre directions and just work with it nice and slow and see how long you have before it starts to gel up. My resin calls for 10 drops per ounce, but it's 85+ out and i use about 7-8 drops per and i have time to get it worked in, the 8 ounce batch i made today i had just enough time to get it all worked in. Hope that helps Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. My super random youtube channel and terrible camera work. JustinWillmon
Alright guys i appreciate the help, i bought some of the sunflash resin, and it should be here tomorrow so im hoping it takes away all the guess work of having to measure, because ive been in the same boat and not sure how much catalyst i need to put or if i put to much. Hopefully though it turns out half way decent, it will be my first time glassing something this big so im hoping and praying haha
79 cutty
The sunflash will definitely take the "guessing" out of it. However, if you want to use regular resin with catalyst I HIGHLY recommend getting a measuring container for measuring CC's......WAY easier than drops! Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking!
