Joe Hagerty Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 Ok so.i have a 1998 dodge stratus and i currently have 2 memphis audio pr 12s in my car wired to 2ohms to a kenwood KAC-8105D amplifier with a memphis audio 8 gauge wiring kit i have a pioneer mixtrax head unit now i havent had a problem with my stereo until just a couple months ago i will play the stereo and it will seem to muffle the sound of the subs then come back to normal after a few minutes it is fine when the head units preset eq is on vocal but if i put it on powerful or any other setting or turn the bass booster on it sounds like its muffling the subs and will continue to do it as long as it is on any other setting my amp is only turned up not even 1/3 of the way up if anybody has any suggestions please let me know ive never had this problem before and especially with only 500 watts its freaking me out lol
ZombieFatMan Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 So you have 8awg power ? I would use atlest 4awg . If the wire is to small it will stress the amp , also don't bass boost . Bass boost bad lol Check your RCA's with a multimeter to verify their not damaged Did you set the gains ? As in do you know how to ? Joe Hagerty Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 Alright man i appreciate it im just trying to figure it all out cause im gonna be taking that stereo out and putting 2 15" sq HDC15s in there with a hifonics BRX2000.1d amplifier ill be using 0awg wiring in that install with extra batterys also another question on that will i have to upgrade my alternator for that setup? If so where can i purchase a high power alternator for tht specific car? Ive never had a car this small so im new to doing installs in these vehicles
Joe Hagerty Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 I had a stereo shop set the gains for me
john253a Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 No why you gonna 2x ported 15 in the trunk Sealed maybe but without serious help with glass I just don't see it happening And you'll be building the entire box in car Go with the 3" 12's http://www.soundqubed.com/HDC312-Copper-Coil-Subwoofer_p_23.html On the 2200 http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-2200D_p_31.html You'll deff need a 3100 or slimar up front and 1 in rear The factory alt is 125a So your pushing it, but it is doable, as long as you don't full tilt all the time and you use a volt gauge to monter it, If you have the coin, add another alt or replace that one for a bigger one While you got everything out idd replace the RCA's as the cost is low but labour is high, so while everything is out just bite the bulet and do it, Once it's all done find someone with an o'sope and have the gain set propley,
Joe Hagerty Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 I was gonna do the HDC3 15s in a ported box possibly take out the back seat cuz im getting a charger but my girl says i cant do nothing wit that but rims and upgraded speakers so my stratus will be my stereo car im not used to the limited space of the car cause ive always drove crown vics and the possibilities are endless with those. As for the 3 12s ive never done a 3 sub install ive only done 2 and 4 subs so how would i wire the 3 12s and what would the final impedance be on them? And could i go with a ported enclosure with them cause im not big on sealed boxes i never have been? Also is there a website i could go to to get a bigger alternator cause none of the places around here know where to get them for my car
john253a Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 not 3x subs 3" subs only get 2x 12" in a 3" coil http://www.soundqube...oofer_p_23.html and if you want louder then that 3x 10" in the 3" coil range http://www.soundqubed.com/HDC310-Copper-Coil-Subwoofer_p_13.html on a 3500 http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-3500D1-Amplifier_p_32.html or go to the 4" coil and still run 2x 12" but on more power more cone area doesnt mean louder, better or worst it comes down to box and power in the right box on the same power the 15's will be louder the 12's, if the 15's are in the wrong box and the 12's in the right the 12's will out perform the 15's

ZombieFatMan Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 I ran two 15" on brx2400.1D 1/0 and second batt . In back. . Full tilt will drop to 12v every time . But never below . If you have the cash for a upgraded alt. do it! Good investment . My alt was a stock 120 amp but most cars have a 90 just FYI "Walmart Where Car Audio Is Both Funny and Sad" "The weak are meat, and the strong do eat..."
Joe Hagerty Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 Right now i have a box that was custom built for my memphis 12s and its almost to 4.0 cf according to the shop that built it and i still have about 5 inches on each side of the box and aprox. 14 inch in the front and back and 3 1 1/2 inches from the top of the box to the lid if that helps.
