I am looking to cross them at 1k-5.5k Currently I have some full range 4 inch Dayton's paired with 1 inch vifa tweets. I really want to know which one provides a more natural sound. Kevin M Posted August 21, 2013 Report Share Posted August 21, 2013 I was waiting for the mods to move or delete before I posted but that hasn't happened so... I like dome and cone midranges but if I had to pick in between the two I would go with a full range cone mid everytime. Domes are great but to me they feel like one trick ponies. They excel in the midrange and lower treble but that's it. It adds more amp's and processing for a small increase in volume. I am a big fan of 3 ways; Giggity, but if I do one having a 3,4, or 5" mid that can take the crossover point out of the midrange works for me. Also a cone midrange can play much lower and higher than a dome. I have seen a couple setups with a midbass and small full range with no tweeter needed. I am sure you could find a full range that could match the output and sq of a dome.
