Partial upgrade, results worsened - Help?

Recommended Posts

(1993 Toyota Celica 1.6L)

Put in SHCA 1/0 OFC (+ 300A fuse and holder) tonight for the positive to the stock alternator and was unhappy when I turned the car back on. Hadn't done grounds yet, they were still 8awg and 4awg like I had before, so that shouldn't have caused any new problems. The car should have essentially been the same, or marginally better than before, you would think? So, In order...

1) I don't know if it was warming up slowly or what, but the engine seemed to be idling higher (~1,100 vs ~850)
2) Lights started dimming at around 16/22 -- Not Normal! Normally, would occur around 19-20 and would be reduced with engine rev. Engine rev reduced dim but not nearly enough as before.
3) Amp seemed to play as if it was receiving less current.

Did not remove the oem +alt wiring, because I kno it's not normally needed. Stock wires appear to go behind the top of the engine and is covered for part of the route, idk what all it supplies.
Help please? Throw out some ideas -- No pix taken yet

in a million, trillion, kabillion years,i would never play that song in my ride. I don't care if its clipped or not LOL. I feel like my nads got clipped after playing this for 15 seconds just to see what it was LOL.

No thanks bro. Not into it.

very big problem. will definelty cause problem. The grounds are more important than the POS leads. ALWAYS upgrades gorunds before or same time as you upgrade POS runs. You are trying to draw more current with less reistance through that bigger wire and when the current tries to return to battery to complete circuit it cant "fit" thorugh the smaller wire and thus build up heat resistance and will be hard on your amp.
