RE SX 18 gets hot

your problem is in the title "RE". Sell it, buy a sundown x18 ;)

I was actually looking at the FI recone kit. Ive heard very good things about sundowns X line but was WAAAAAYYY more interested in their ZV4 lineup

GREAT answer, because that helps the OP diagnose his issue. SMH

It's cool I catch it on both ends people like certain equipment and trying to introduce them to new or innovative stuff is like teaching a three year old quantum physics.

Nothing wrong with the RE sub.

Bottom line is you are going too far with the volume knob.

2 solutions:

1. Quit turning the volume up so high, or

2. Turn down the gain.

Do one or both of these things until there is no more smell/cap is not so hot and your problem is solved.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

yeah I did both before I left work and I didn't play the sub much. I appreciate everyones input!
