carleton26 Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 I recently bought a Memphis Mojo X 12" sub for my 96' Audi A4 with an original idea of building a ported box for it. After doing days of research I have decieded that I have no idea what i'm doing. I will be running a Sundown SAZ1500 with a hc1800 in the trunk and a hc1200 for the starting battery. I really want to build a ported box but, according to this calculator I found the speaker will do better in a sealed box. But, will it be as loud attached is a the Thiele Small Parameters hopefully you guys can help. Also the max space I can use is 28" x 18" x 17". Thank you. http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/documents/All%20MojoX_ts.pdf
jarrius Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 You can not really rely on calculators that say it will preform/be louder in a type of box. The box matters a lot yes but the car you are putting it in does to. Personally I would say go ported tuned to about 33-36hz (just my opinion) now as for a design I can't help but people on here can if you ask in the right section of the forum. Other than that everything looks good just make sure you set your gains properly and happy pounding. 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
CleanSierra Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Spec wise, the sub IS best suited for a sealed or 4th order enclosure. Subs with an EBP(Efficiency Bandwidth Product) of less than 50, are better suited for Acoustic Suspension(sealed enclosure) or 4th order enclosures. EBP is calculated by dividing Fs, which is free air resonance by the Qes of the driver. Q refers to damping. Qes is the speakers Q at the resonant frequency. Simply put, it's how well the speaker is damped when under electrical load, how well it can control itself and reproduce the frequency accurately. The EBP for that subwoofer is 37.28(rounded up) which DOES indicate that it is more suited for the sealed or 4th order enclosures. Ported can be done though and would work fine I'm sure, and especially since it will be in the environment of a vehicle. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
jarrius Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Ok so I take it I am wrong on my comment sorry man I still has a lot of learning to do 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
carleton26 Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 No its cool. I still have alot to learn as well. I guess I am going sealed then. I just want this sub to sound at its best. At first I wanted to go strictly for SPL purposes put I think now I just want it to sound good. Thanks for the help. Oh yea you wouldn't know what size box this sub would do good in off the specs because I cant figure it out? Im guessing maybe 1.5
Watch the bass Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Try torres box calculator, it´s in the sub/enclosure section in the top post´s. "in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty" Bob Marley
