Is there such a thing as too much overhead for an amp?

Probably a newb questions. I plan on running my SAZ-1000D at 1 ohm, setting the gain with an o-scope, but then using the remote bass knob to match the sub level to match my speakers. Is there any chance that I could turn the gain too low (well decrease voltage sensitivity) and lose response sensitivity. Such as the amp rca voltage isn't high enough to cause the amp to recognize that it needs to amplify the signal?

thanks!
