bentandbroken
I have an older PS 1200 Home theater subwoofer. The foam surround has given out and I am looking for a replacement woofer. I prefer that over refoaming the surround for simplicity sake, but I will consider that as a last resort. Specs: Rms: 250 watts. Bandpass tuned to 60 hz 50ohm impedance 12" woofer I did find a refoaming kit for roughly $25, but my the center of the woofer is not in great shape either, that's why I'm leaning toward a replacement. Life's a trip. . . Don't fall.
Chris Hammer
What about 6ohm woofers? and was it 5ohm what its rated from manufacture or what you measured at the coil with a dmm? bentandbroken
Well, it was fifty ohms on a website but now I'm not sure. I can't find anywhere that tells me the ohm impendance of the driver and I don't trust the 50 ohm thing. I did see where one person had said it was a 6 ohm driver. But I'm not sure and I accidentally Fried my multimeter last week. Grr if I get a new one ill post my actual measurements of the impedance soon. Life's a trip. . . Don't fall. bentandbroken
Okay guys, fixed my multimeter and the sub is reading a 4 ohm impedance. given that I had to remove the sub I have a couple new questions. First off if the 4 ohm reading was stable does that indicate that the voice coil is okay? It doesn't click or stick when I flex the cone, but I do hear a slight dragging sound. The other thing I realized is the the damage is only to the dust cap, so should I refoam or replace? Life's a trip. . . Don't fall.
Chris Hammer
Hard to say if its ok but I would just replace it with a 4ohm woofer with similar power handling and specs.
