Syphlyn Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Never made one before, doing this as a gift for a good friend of mine! I'm handy with wood working and stuff ect.. For 2 alpine Type R subs. Alpine recommends 1.3 cu ft per driver (net) and I want them tuned to 32hz. Please and thank you. I tried using torres calculator but couldn't get a box to work. Here's the maximum dimensions I have to work with so it'll fit in his vehicle: Height: 30in (before it starts blocking the back window) Width: 33in Depth: 15in (He drives a truck w/extended cab) Vehicle is a 2000 f150 Also what program do people use to get models of the box? audiA6_audio Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 use torres to get your numbers than a program like google sketchup for visual design. what are you using for an amp? how much power you pushing to the subs? are the the 10" subs ?

They are the older type Rs so their power handling is only 500w whereas the new ones are 1000 Syphlyns 2000 F150 4.6L V8 H/U: Kendwood KDC-X898 Speakers: 4 x Alpine SPR-68 Speakers 4 Channel Amp: Alpine PDX-F4 Sub: Sundown Zv4 12 Sub Amp: Sundown SAZ-2000D Box: 2.75 Cu Ft @ 31Hz Alternator: Mechman 250A elite series Wiring: All KnuKoncepz 0 gauge OFC + KnuKonceptz Krystal RCAs
audiA6_audio Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Heres a design i did up, ofcourse if you desire port up or subs forward it only takes some quick editing First torres: now i know it says port bends yes, but with porting to the side means no bends. edit* net volume didnt account for any internal bracing (would recomend) and the visual. if you ask around you will find that this is a more popular set up for situations like in the f150. subs up port to pass side is a great combo plus i allowed a few inches for the port to breath ( you may actually have more once in the truck)
Syphlyn Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 I should have added that the subwoofer displacement is .142 for both drivers (0.071 cu ft each) Also your box has a net volume of 3.37 cu ft. Alpine manual says 1.3 cu ft (net) per driver. Does that matter? How is the port inside the box set up? I don't know if it matters but here: http://imgur.com/fImWG4G,11mQX5D. Also a couple more questions. Bracing? Putting 45deg blocks in the corners? Any tips or suggestions? EDIT: THANK YOU THAT LOOKS AMAZING. audiA6_audio Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 you can always add bracing if you want it will lessen your net volume the more you add and raise the tuning but only ever so slightly, ever so slightly
audiA6_audio Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 yes they have a little more room than really needed but those 45's eat up some volume. too too much extra will cause them to bottom out easy. they should be fine. can always throw a beefier pair of 12's in there if upgrade is pursued you will actually end up with just under 3 cubes after all displacements shown. soo an extra .2 per sub basically EDIT** rand everything through torres again with all numbers and comes out to 2.9 cubes tuned to just over 34hz which is actually pretty close to factory suggestion.

I'll probably add that brace you suggested. is there anyway to keep the tuning @ 32 after adding the bracing and the 45s? Also the orientation of the port, does it matter? http://imgur.com/1erCaVs Syphlyns 2000 F150 4.6L V8 H/U: Kendwood KDC-X898 Speakers: 4 x Alpine SPR-68 Speakers 4 Channel Amp: Alpine PDX-F4 Sub: Sundown Zv4 12 Sub Amp: Sundown SAZ-2000D Box: 2.75 Cu Ft @ 31Hz Alternator: Mechman 250A elite series Wiring: All KnuKoncepz 0 gauge OFC + KnuKonceptz Krystal RCAs
audiA6_audio Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 yes, i added 2" to port length dropped to 32.36, also the net volume dropped to 2.79 and honestly you may not even notice a difference. if you wanted to port forward or upward you would only need to calculate for the bends. are you set on any specific port direction?
Syphlyn Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 Honestly I don't even know what kind of differences the port direction makes.
