x5needsboom Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Hello all, New to forum. loved the SMD videos on youtube. that being said need some assistance / recomendations. question 1 I have 2 subs 4ohm dual voice coils (elemental designs 11.kv) connected to an alpine MRP m850 @ 2ohms mono amp 800watts they are in separate sealed custom boxes on opposite sides of my truck. Up until 2 days ago they were good. Now all of sudden the left speaker sucks in hard. My bass response seems to be cut in half. I read many posts by searching the web where people are saying that normally this is the amp introducing a dc voltage. If thats true why doesn't the right side speaker suck in? they are in mono so they are gettin same signal from amp. Any ideas on what it could be or how to troubleshoot. saturday the right speaker stopped playing i took it all apart and noticed the little metal strip that connects to the cone and the screw terminals had a small hole i soldered it it worked for a few then failed again. I then just ran a jumper wire from the cone to the terminal so now the right one plays again.. But the left one is still sucking it self in. I changed the wires on it too(swapped polaritys) amps fuses are good, no phase switch. cant figure it out. if no fixthen that starts question2 question 2 what do you recomend for a shallow mount subwoofers. will need 2 10 in for my Sealed box want to wire it for 2ohms so i guessing dvc 4 ohm subs, i had ED ( elemental designs) I liked my 11kvs but i know there is better stuff out there. JL is 10w1 or was it w3 or the pioneers is what alot of people were using in the x5 boxes. I just know JL has went down hill. Need your experts advice. here is a good link to the custom box i have 2 of them - http://www.xoutpost.com/287577-post1.html I am going for SQ not SPL. I ll see if i can find specs of my current box. I was thinking maybe alpines not sure what will hit deep and clean in a tiny box. thanks in advance
john253a Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Have you thought about going with a full size 8" and lowering it in the box 2" off where the 10 is now so you 5.7" of m/depth Then you could do something like the sd8 But if you want do go with 2x 10 You'll need d2 with a dvc to run 2ohm final Or a 4ohm svc
jarrius Posted October 19, 2013 Report Posted October 19, 2013 JL has not gone down hill they are just fucking expensive as hell any more. I agree with john tho some full size 8's should work good. Also one sub is sucking in you say? Check the surround on it and make sure it's not ripped any ware if it is it will cause problems. Also check the sub it self take a 9volt battery and hook it up to each coil and see if it pushes out or pulls in. Also you said you have 2 duel 4ohm subs to 1 amp in mono mode right? If that's true your amp is seeing a 1ohm load not 2ohm when you connect both subs up to the same channel it's still reducing the ohm load. (Unless you have them on compleatly different channels the. It should read 2ohms I think) 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
x5needsboom Posted October 19, 2013 Author Report Posted October 19, 2013 Thank you for the advice. I don't want to go the 8inch route as i already have 2 custom boxes made for the left and right side. I'm trying to keep it 2 shallow 10 inches. 1. Im pretty sure the elemental designs 11kv d2 is dual 2 ohm and setup to my amp in 2 ohm load mode per this website sorry if i wrote 4 ohms i meant 2 ohms. Option 2 (series/parallel) = 2 ohm loadVoice coils wired in series, speakers wired in parallelRecommended Amplifier: Stable at 2 or 1 ohm mono from http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=22 2. I'm a try the 9volt battery trick to test it. There is no visible damage that i can see on the surround 3. heres my sub specs and i got 2 of them 11Kv.2 SubwoofersPower Handling : 300WRmsSealed Box Size : .4-.6cFVented Box Size : .8-1.0cFInfinite Baffle Capable : YesAvaliable VC's - Dual 2 so you are reccomending JLs.
jarrius Posted October 19, 2013 Report Posted October 19, 2013 Yes jl are still good but I would look for other brands of shallow mounts jl is way to much money for what it is any more. There still good just not the best as they clame 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
The_Iceman Posted October 19, 2013 Report Posted October 19, 2013 Try Sundown SD-2 10s. Sundown makes real good subs, and the SD-2 can handle more watts than your current subs. Rated at 500 rms a peice. Should be cheaper than jl as well My audio system HU - Kenwood KDC bt755HD Subs - Sundown SA 10 -2 Amplifier - CT Sounds 900.1 Car - 2013 scion TC "It matter's not what other's think about you as long as you are happy with who you are" "Great people didn't not sit around and wait for great thing's to come their way, they laced up their shoes, went out kicked some ass and made them happen" "Until you've taken a long walk in my size 11 you have no right to judge me" Musical interests: We came as romans, A Day To Remember, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Story Of The Year, Atreyu, Breaking Benjamin, rise against, bullet for my valentine, red, skillet, Volbeat, alterbridge, creed, T.I., B.o.B, Eminem, T-pain,
