SICKSPD Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Hi I have a Hifonics Brutus 1700 watt amp that Ive had for the past year and a half I believe. The past couple months Ive had problems I believe to be caused by it. Im running two alpine type rs and when the bass knob is turned down almost all the way the bass seems relatively clean and normal, but once the bass to the subs is adjusted higher than around 30% or more the bass starts getting muffled and extremely distorted, I'm not sure what the exact word for it is though. Ive ruled out the subs being the problem, but the only other cause could have to do with my Pioneer head unit. Since last winter every morning when its even slightly cold out it wont even turn on. It's not until it warms up outside that it seems to turn on and during spring/fall/summer this problem is non-existent. Anybody have any guesses as to what my bass problem could be? and if the headunit problem is a separate issue, any ideas what that could be about? About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.
Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 x2 clipping the shit out of the amp. bass boost is bad. have you checked to see if the remote wire terminal on the amp is seeing over 12v when it's cold out and the amp won't turn on?

The bass control I was referring to was just the sub level knob on my clarion equalizer. Also, when the headunit wont come on none of the other audio equipment is powered up either. I'm assuming because theirs no power in the headunit to signal the remote wire on the amps and equalizer. So can there be an actual correlation between the temperature outside affecting audio equipment? Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 well cold shrinks things ever so slightly. maybe a connection on your radio harness is bad. or the pins that connect the faceplate to the radio body. I've heard that happening too

Believe it or not removable face plates are a common failure due to the cold and the incredibly small board in them. They crack in the winter, loose a solder. Ive seen this happen so many times. I never remove my face plate after having to replace one. You can check your connections but i'll bet it's your face plate. truthsayer
