I know it generally works for getting you at least close to the right side port but it's not the right way to calculate port area. The same driver in a smaller box doesn't need a smaller port than the same driver in a larger box. The right way to do it is to calculate it using volume of air the driver can move (Vd, which is cone area * xmax) and the tuning frequency.
