B-Large Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 I'm designing an enclosure for a single AA chaos ten for a friend of mine. I'm still new to ported enclosures and would love some input from the pros. Enclosure tune is not set in stone and am open for suggestions for a variety of music from rock and country to electronic genres. One of my major concerns is port area per cube and how to measure the port. Here is what i have so far:(sketchup drawings). 1.3 cubes after sub displacment 23" of port area An "actual port length of 35.86 or maybe 37.068. Please look and let me know which of the two ways i measured is correct. Torres sheet: Port of my design measured the way i think it should be resulting in 35.857" actual port length. Port length the way i think Torres calculates it? resulting in 37.068
Joe X Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 You are ok on 1K power, when possible I try to avoid a second turn on the port. Torres is not very precise either way (or temperature assumptions for that matter) so an inch more or one less is not going to make a difference.

Here is another design i'm considering: 34hz tune 1.25' net volume 1.75x11.5 port (area of 20.125) 30.5 inch port length (single bend) works out to 16" of port per cube I am concerned that this design would not be enough port area. What do you think?
Joe X Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 21-23 are within limits on those conditions, if the port doesn't take a second turn it will need to stay about 2 times it's width from the side wall or it's effective length will increase.

Damn your good! looks like i'd be about 3/4" short of doubling vent width. You think it would be usable or should i just widen the box by an inch and add bracing to bring volume back down?
Joe X Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 I would just not install the 45 on that corner and pull back a bit, I don't think 1/2" less will change your tuning that much, however this version of Torres miscalculates the port displacement in such a way that the net volume will appear larger than it is and tuning shown will be lower than it should, the older Torres did the opposite but by a slighter margin. The tuning error was never more than 3Hz in my tests. Just saying because you are so careful with your measurements.

All the volume numbers i have been using were calculated by me from the sketchup diagrams so i should be good there. Also started playing with another port calcultor and winisd. Ended up making another design and went wit a 1 7/8" wide port which gave me an area i was happy with and a single bend with plenty of port end clearance. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 Thanks Joe x. The help was much Aprreciated.
Joe X Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 You're welcome. Glad you could work out something suitable.
nraines1 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 You have gone above and beyond we are going to have to break that table saw im real soon
