73 nova tweeter placement, 6.5" comp ideas

I have a 73 nova that's finishing up. time for stereo. The nova originally came with a single 4x10 mono speaker that was mounted center of dash. Obviously i'm upgrading. I figure i'm going to run a 6.5" component set since they make kick panel mounts, just have to modify the parking brake a little. Now i got that old space where the 4x10 went and there are options on what to do with it, apart from leaving it empt I have three ideas. They make a DVC 4x10 with stereo tweeters, i could get one of those and put it in there.. how good it sounds, got me. They also sell an adapter to mount two 4" speakers there, it's an option, but a more expensive one as the adapter with some crapo speakers is 60$ and i cannot find them without speakers mounted. So my last idea is to mount my tweeters in that location, but i really don't know how that will play out acoustically. Either the dual 4s or 4x10 would driven by head unit that's 25w rms i believe.

My comps will be driven by an RE USX4250 so 100w rms @ 4ohm 150w @ 2ohm. I don't really want to spend a ton on them, under 200 ideally. Bass will be added with an SA-10.

So, what do i do with the old 4x10 space, and what comps do you recommend in the price/power bracket? (have been looking at ID, SA, CDT)

Anything you put in the center should get a mono signal. Most HU cannot do that with internal power. Either use a small amp in mono or skip the center location. But concentrate on your L/R stage first and see if it's even necessary.

Try your tweeters in the kick and if you're not happy move them up to the a-pillars or outside edges of the dash until you find a place that you're happy with the sound and the look.

Static drops are my bag.

Along with what jk13 was saying about the center speaker, for your budget it really should be left alone. A proper center channel with signal steering sounds great for more than 2 listeners, but it requires an expensive digital signal processor.

Mk, guess i'll just be grabbing either ID or CDT 6.5" comps. There is always room to upgrade later as i don't ever plan on selling it, guess there is a 4th option of putting a pair of 4" midwoofers there, but.. like you guys are saying it should be mono sound coming out of it, and closest i can come to that is the DVC 4x10s which just have the tweeter coming from left and right.. and i have no idea about the quality of them, but based on them being made by Custom Auto Sounds i have 0 faith.

1 more question... Are crescendo Mezzo's worth the extra ~100$ over the ID CTX?
