Turboelky
Well, I would like to get into the SOTM, so I thought I'd start a build thread. Let me explain what I have going on! I started off with some cheap stuff, not really getting the results I looked for, obviously. Being I have an OCD type personality when it comes to building, I haven't been able to stop! I then got into JL AUDIO stuff. I was running the following: Alpine g136bt head unit Alpine G180 EQ cheap 0 gage CCA cable for 1000/1 4 gage RF cable for 300/4 RF RCA cables Clarion 3.5" in the dash off of component cross over 1 JL 300/4 1 JL 1000/1 Infinity Kappa components in the front Infinity Kappa components in the rear 1 JL AUDIO 12" W7 in a ported box stock battery and alternator (165 amp) Well, THANK GOD THE JL AUDIO TOOK A CRAP!!!!!! Heres a few pics of what it looked like BEFORE.. these are NOT CURRENT PICS!! I'm just trying to show the progression in the build!……. I mounted the JL 1000/1 in the cubby area. to keep that cool, I installed an intake and exhaust 12v fan set up on a relay and remote turn on. Here is the 300/4 and I HATED where it was, but had no ideal where to install it: And here was my single ported box build. It was fun. I did it with maple wood to save weight. I bought an SS for a reason, but I've given up hope to have it as light as possible…hahahahaha Somehow I ended up with a full roll of trunk carpet…wtf!! MORE COMING!!! Turboelky
so then I realized the single W7 just wasn't doing what I thought it would, or should. I bought another W7 and built the box above actually, I had another identical ported box already. Once I added the second sub, the JL1000/1 took a crap! Its all good, I had it for some time and it was old and tired I guess. I was looking around and I always new of SMD on youtube, but didn't know he had a forum. Well, I got on here and fucked up. I watched the Chevelle build he did, and I wanted something similar to that but with the T series amps. THANKS STEVE!!!!!!! haha So I bought these guys from a buddy who's brother works for Rockford Fosgate…for a great price. Here is where things turned from Ahhhh, it sounds OK to DAMMNNNN!! Turboelky
no explanation need…lol again... laid out the wiring to see what I needed. Rockford Fosgate OFC 0/1 gage cable Rockford Fosgate RCA's Rockford Fosgate…everything just about. I used the existing silver RF 4 gage that was power, as a ground. I went engine to battery, battery to frame, battery to body to rear ground to ground distribution! grounded out! lol. that sounds confusing as hell!! I don't have a pic of that. Its all boring anyways... one more of the amps because they are sexy AF!!!! Alright, where am I. OK. I needed to come up with a way to install this stuff, but that's easy to move for future upgrades. I'll get to that. I do plan on adding a few key components to my set up to improve it. As of right now, its 100% working and functional. Anyways. I was having issues with the rear coax infinity speakers. Well, I called my buddy up, and grabbed a pair of T3's I removed the infinity kappa components up front, and removed the clarion 3.5's from the dash. I was going to leave the 3.5's hooked up, but I couldn't use the fader so F that. The T3's were massive compared to the infinity. Took a bunch of work to get them in the pods,,but it worked out. more coming. Not sure how many pics per post
Turboelky
Well, luckily GM thought out something pretty good. The front pods actually put the speakers further into the truck, like spacers would. They also used a material called "sonozorb" which is the white stuff. Noise insulation and moisture guard behind it. They actually donated a bunch of left over material to a company to make winter coats for the homeless. That was awesome of them!!!! Heres some pics of the destruction: another door pic: then I moved to the rear doors. I installed the infinity Kappa components in the rear. No room for the tweeters really, but I put them next to the mids. They still play pretty good despite the panel blocking half of them. I plan on replacing them with RF speakers anyways, but for now they'll do!!
Turboelky
So being I want to change things up after I get a few more parts, I had to come up with an easily replaced amp rack. I plan on a second AGM battery, once I get the MECHMAN alternator and regulator I want!!! I needs it!!! yes NEEDS not NEED!!! I ran the 0 gage to the center, where the battery will eventually be. I'm not disclosing the design, because I have yet to see what I plan on doing..but its going to be beautiful!! Heres a pic: As you can see, theres two different colored boxes in the rear. Theres good reason! I bought 1 JL W7 at a time and built boxes individually. I don't have the rest of what I want to install, so they're staying just like that until I do. I can say, I plan on going sealed I currently have a factory 165AMP alternator. It seems to be doing Ok, but I don't play music too long full tilt in fear of the alternator blowing out of my hood! LOL! I am running a Bosch AGM blue top battery. Knock it if you want, but this battery is WAAAYYYY better than Optima all day long….well, thats not saying much though. But it has been absolutely amazing so far, i wouldn't hesitate to buy another!
Turboelky
I did the BIG 3. I don't have the best pics, but I can take more. Heres the Bosch battery I'm running. Like i said, knock it if you want. This battery is a bad mother lover!! Rockford Fosgate fuse holder. I love it! Head unit and EQ. I had a Double Din Eclipse LONG ago, hated Double Din!!! F that. Even the ones my buddies have all glitch. Its annoying. So to sum things up, I wanted a system that was not only LOUD, but also something with SQ. I know there are subs that get louder than the W7's for less than half, but I really have a love for the W7's. They sound AMAZING. Despite what people say, they do get loud AND sound clean. The Rockford Fosgate amps on the other hand, KILL the older JL Audio amps hands down. No doubt. They seem to run much better on less power. The 300/4 still works great, but here's how I feel about it: lol I can't wait to get the alternator, regulator and 3sixty.3 in here! With holidays here, no extra money for that right now. Its all good. System is sounding amazing as is, and I've never been happier with my sounds. Anyways. Thought, comments, smart ass remarks? Thanks for looking guys! Turboelky
On a side note, I also have an obsession with auto detailing….paint corrections! If you have a dark colored ride, wax won't do much! Repainted the hood….THIS WAS THE WAY THE BODY SHOP LEFT IT!!!!!!! This is HOW I LEFT IT!
