iceman1575 Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 So I've gotten sick of the stock radio in my new truck real fast, so I definitely need to work on a new stereo for it. Nothing too crazy, just some hidden low end, something to give me a nice full sounding system. I had planned on recycling my 4 x SA-8v1's from my old truck, but there's nowhere for them to fit with proper airspace, without taking out the seats. I just want something I can install and practically forget. I've looked at a couple different options, and still trying to decide what I want to do...Head Unit: Probably Alpine, with the KTP445A power pack (to avoid installing a separate 4 channel)Door Speakers: 6.5" components, either Sundown or Alpine as well, looking at other optionsSub ideas: Tossed up between A. 4 x SD-2 8" sealed behind the seat (optimum air space)B. 3 x SD-2 10" sealed behind the seat (optimum air space)C. 4 x SD-2 10" sealed behind the seat (less than optimum air space)D. 2 x SD-2 10" behind the seat, plus 2 x SD-2 10" under the seat (more air space) may either be ported or sealed if I canOption D seems like the best, but will take up a lot of room that I could use...right now it looks like option B is going to be the most likely, has almost double the cone area of option A, and will probably work better than jamming all four behind it. Going to do more calculations tomorrow and see what I can figure out.Picture of the truck as it sits... POTATO!

Neither, blow through. LOL if I had to choose, Id go with A or B. Nice truck btw Haha, I'm not getting crazy with this truck, just enough to hear music better than stock, and have some low end. I did the calculations, I think B is going to be the most likely choice, as there's enough room for that much air space behind it, plus there's just a little more cone area. I hate odd numbers but I think it won't be too bad. POTATO!

More than likely going to be the 3x10's, 99% sure it will be the Sundown SD-2 10's, sealed (may be ported if I have enough room, not likely though) on about 1500-2000 watts, give or take. Still deciding how I exactly want to do it..if I go with dual 2's, final wiring would be about 1.33 ohms.(Quick question though, dumb one I know, but let's say I do two in dual 2 ohm, with the pair wired series/parallel, and the third one in dual 4 ohm, so the final wiring is 1 ohm, would it work or is it a dumb idea?)Mid/Highs are in the air, but I'm looking at either one of the following set ups...Sundown SA 6.5 component set in each doorSundown NeoPro V2 with Crescendo FT1Crescendo PWX6 with Crescendo FT1 If you have seen my post in the Amplifiers section, I had been debating on the Alpine KTP445, but there was a mini amplifier suggested, so if I went that way (two of them), I would do one of two things, either passive ran with 175 watts per door (set conservatively) or active with ~50 watts to each top and mid. I would probably have to get an external processor then..Ultimate goal of this rig is to have a nice sounding system with a decent amount of low end, but take up as little space as I can, while still getting a good sound. I'm going to have it wired up to my current radio for the time being, to make sure it works fine. Will be mounted under the passenger seat most likely. Not a bad deal for $120. Plans are as they sit right now:Kenwood DDX470 or DDX770 Double DIN H/U 2 RF PBR300x4's on Audiocontrol crossovers for bi-amping4 6.5" mids (Crescendo PWX6 or Sundown NeoPro 6.5's, probably the Crescendo's as they don't demand power like the NeoPro's do)4 Crescendo FT1's for highsSubs are still tossed up, either:- 4 Sundown SD-2 8's wired to 2 ohms (if I can find a matching amp for their power) - 3 or 4 Sundown SD-2 10's wired to 1 ohmEither way they're going behind the rear seat in the truck, so if I can squeeze out enough room without destroying functionality, then I will Like I said, nothing fancy, but I want to keep the truck functional. POTATO!
