lgnmgr Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 I have an 03 chevy s10 zr2 extended cab. I want to build a nice, good sq, loud system while still having as much storage in the cab as possible and the ability to use the flip down rear seat on the passenger side if needed. Equipment i already have - any and all wiring i should need for amps and big 3 - sundown saz 1500d sub amp - sundown sax 125.2 2ch amp - polk mm 6.5 components (may or may not use) my thoughts - take out all stock speakers and run 1 good set of components off of the sax 125.2 - possibly make false floor to house amps under and have fans to cool the amps - make enclosure for 10 or 12 inch sub behind driver seat - do big 3 wire upgrade, install better alternator, upgrade battery to bigger agm - install better HU questions i have - should i go with 1 set of components or would it be better to go with 2 sets or pro audio mids and super tweets (regardless of configuration i would be using the sax 125.2 for power) - dimensions i have to work with for sub enclosure are roughly 20"H x 15"W x 14"TOP DEPTH x 20"BOTTOM DEPTH. the depths are pretty much fixed due to my seat position but height and/or width could be increased if necessary. I would prefer 1 ported 12 but if it would work better i could go with a 10 - The enclosure is the one area i lack knowledge on, I am capable of building one and have before if im given direction but as far as figuring out which way to fire the sub and where to place the port and what tuning i need is where i need suggestions - i need a 10 or 12 that can handle the saz1500 for under $300 preferably, and from what ive seen the FI Q is my best option to fit what i want, but i am open to suggestions - i do also need suggestions on a decent HU for around $300 Preferably with 3 sets of pre outs and good preout voltage Thats all i can think of for now but i really am open to any and all suggestion and comments. im looking to start building the system as soon as the weather breaks this year but i want to have all the equipment ready to go before i start so i have about a month or 2 to get it all figured out and purchase everything. thanks for your help.
notorious97200 Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 If you use a 2 ch amplifier, you can run one or two sets of component speakers. You don't have enough channels to run separate mids & highs. One sub : a single set of comp should be enough and easier to install. There are so much subs on the market...Fi Q is a good choice, SSA icon, Sundown X, DC level 4,...take your time, but the box mill be the main factor. Don't go cheap on the box. You can also find really good deals if you're ok with used products. I found a DD 9515 sub used for dirt cheap locally, and we don't have a lot of choices in our local stores (hifonics, Audiopipe, Pioneer or Soundstream are the only brands we can find easily !). Good luck black BMW X1 2.0 l 192 hp OEM head unit, Amplifiers : Audison AP 8.9 with integrated DSP and Ampere Audio 1200. Focal ES 100 K in front doors, and Dayton RS 180 for midbass under the front seats. 2 SSA DEMONS 10" subs, in a sealed box. SecondSkin Damplifier on front doors, and Luxury Liner Pro for the cargo area.
lgnmgr Posted January 30, 2014 Author Report Posted January 30, 2014 ok thanks. ya i didn't think about not having enough channels to run the pro mids and tweets separate. And i do definitely want to make the best enclosure i can i just need to be directed somewhat on how to use an enclosure calculator or i suppose i may pay for a design from a professional if it came down to it. may questions with an enclosure are more about sub and port placement and port tuning then anything else
Aj11 Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 what kind of music do you listen to? all the subs listed above are great subs. ct subs are hitting the market soon also. i would figure out how big you can go on the box. if it's around 2ftvthen a 10 inch sub. 3cubic feet a 12 4ft a 15. remember your gonna have sub bracing and port displacement. i would tune the box between 30-35hz 30is more on the sq side and the closer you get to 40hz the more spl you'll have. and as far as components go a good set on your 2channel should be fine for the little truck cabin. again as said above the box is everything! allot of people don't realize that a 10inch sub in a 2cubic foot box Would be louder and sound better then a 18 In a 2cubic foot box! don't get caught up in the 10s are for sq and 15s are for spl thing. it's all in the box. jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
lgnmgr Posted February 2, 2014 Author Report Posted February 2, 2014 i listen to a little bit of everything but most of the time im listening to rap or really anything with a good beat. i am right with you on the size of the subs not being an end all be all, but i do want to fit the biggest that my square footage will allow because the more cone area i can have the better. I guess i need to do a bit more measuring and figure out the exact dimensions i will be using for the enclosure. thanks
Jacob Strahan Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 i have a FI ssd 15" fully loaded and it slams in the right box. box is key to making your subs sound good. but FI is definately a great sub to use. vehicle: 1998 2door tahoe HU: kenwood single din subs: DC level 4 18" amp: hifonics 2500.1D and 1200.4 door speakers: 2 PWX 8"s and 2 random 6.5"s
Aj11 Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 yes cone area Is key, but that said if you have 4 cubic feet of air space Two tens have more then a 15. or 4 8s. personally i don't like putting 12s in anything lower than 5cubic feet but that's just Me. you can download free and cheap box building apps on the google play store. it will give you a good idea of what your options are. i wouldn't build your box off them but there are a great toilet tool! haha i bought the kicker u App And that was allot of help foot square feet port Size all that stuff. use it get a good roughcopy Then we'll help you fine tune it jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
