Krimzon7 Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Hey all. I'm a long time lurker here, and I rarely post. I do, however consider this site and forum a daily staple. I love you guys builds, and I love absorbing as much as I can about this hobby from each of you. So, I've applied a little bit of that knowledge to my current ride. My goals for this build were simple and straight forward: I wanted good low bass, clear crips highs, and a factory look. I didn't want to do too many modifications, and I wanted to keep this a simple, economical, ride that will get me to and from my daily duties...with a nice system. I decided to try out a company that wasn't such a household name where I'm at (Atlanta Ga). Down here, everybody is NH'ing JL, Kicker, and all of the usual suspects. With that being said, I decided to try out NVX. I liked the small footprint of the Amps (since I wanted a stealthy install), and the speakers/wires all seem to be well constructed. I'm quite happy with it. I also didn't want Sundown/FI/RF/Nendo or any of the other brands that seem to frequent the boards. I wanted to try something different. NVX piqued my interest so I went with this brand. The customer service is pretty cool, I'm on a first name basis with a couple people there, and everything that they make seems solid and affordable. With that being said, I completed my install, and I didn't go too wild with this system. It's my daily, I wanted a simple great sounding setup. I learned a lot....mainly that I need some more practice. I will show you the box, and then I will show you the plan to fix it. Here's what I'm working with now 1.75 cubes of unbraced, inefficient airspace in a completely crude box. Sometimes, you get the Bear. Sometimes, the Bear gets you.
Krimzon7 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Report Posted February 18, 2014 While this box 'isn't bad for a first timer'....I wanted better. I wanted better quicker. I realized a couple of truths: I didn't have the time right now to really build a quality enclosure and I didn't have the tools to build a quality enclosure. With that being said, I reached out to a overall good guy and YOUR October 2013 SOTM winner, Mark of Car Audio Fabrication. We talked, traded ideas, brainstormed, and decided on a pretty cool idea. Mark would build a quality box build to my subs specs, and he'd document it for his channel. If I haven't said it before, Mark you're amazing at what you do, and I can't wait to do a final walk around, with all of the puzzle pieces together! I love the program, and ('sup man!)mklett33 ^^above^^ has a fantastic tutorial on his Youtube channel. (CAF) Not bashing anyone here, but PWK designs is a bad ass box builder, he'll sell you a complete plan for I think 50 bucks. He's very good with the SQ oriented enclosures, he kinda despises people who ask him to make a box that will do 150 db, he's way off into the TS parameters and all the technical acoustics of enclosure response, he's on it. Ha! Yeah I tried to use Sketchup...I did the proper planning but then again, those simple truths bit me in the ass...I needed a router. I needed a good saw, I needed space...and I did't have any of those. I want to definitely build another enclosure...If for no other reason, to keep getting better at building boxes, but The Malibu is going to have an outstanding enclosure when Mark is done. I know PWK is pretty boss, but I chose Mark because he's also pretty boss, and I dug the fact that my box would be built and every step would be documented. Pretty happy about that.
