Hey, this is my current system listed:

UNDER THE HOOD: Dc 180 amp alternator, yellowtop, BIG-3 "skyhigh 1/0 OFC, 1run of skyhigh 1/0 CCA to the trunk battery.

IN THE DASH: Kenwood excelon x397 "the most basic excelon 4 volt deck"

IN THE TRUNK: XS Power xp950, all CCA skyhigh wire on that battery, DC Audio 2.0k, AA Mayhem 12" woofer in a 33htz box.

Here are some pictures, Please scroll through them to get a better understanding of my question at the bottom of them, thanks.

It sits in a 2009 subaru impreza sedan, the whole trunk has been ripped out, 22 sheets of .80mill technix dampening in every single possible spot around the rear of my vehicle, 2 1" MDF fake floor boards bolted to the frame, spare tire removed and re-carpeted.

Now my question may be simple or not, which port fire will be the loudest in my ride. I have tried facing the lid, and facing into the car, but have not tried facing upwards... Currently it is facing into the car as the pictures show, and its significantly louder then facing the lid, which is a first in my car from the older setups i have had.

Before the amp gains and deck settings come into response, i have set my amplifier with the DD-1 on track SPL-5, just behind clipping, and my deck as well at 7/15sw gain, with no boosters. I am trying to get the most out of this single 12 setup to compete in the small competitions around my area. Any advice would be great on the setup, thanks.

I am not using a meter, no funds to buy a 700 dollar meter, i just sit in the ride and go through decaf/djsnt music and listen for differences. But hell, what my ear likes the meter might not.

Test test test. I can say in my car to my ear sub and port facing the trunk lid is loudest. (142db). Also if you do have your set up like that I personally would see about moving the batt in the back. To me it seems it could block output being in front of the port(that is how it looks Any way). Also you could try sealing off the box from the trunk and that may give you a gain also. But really it's all about testing^_^

140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL

142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at)

141 on music.

you should put your battery ground to the fame not your strut. and testing is your only real option it sucks i know. I've always liked port up into a trunk car. with the port visible from the deck lid

Yeah, the belt wrap on your alternator is bad. Probably lots of belt slip, even for a 180a unit.

You'd definitely want to throw an idler wheel on to get better wrap if you ever get a bigger alternator.

Thanks for the replies gents, i have taken some of the advise and flipped the sub facing into the lid "almost 5 inches from the lid". The port is now on the driver side facing into the lid as well, and it metered almost a 42.. testing is key here. Just wish i could trunk-wall this subby, but there are electrical boxes/wires below the metal supports the battery and amp are sitting on, so there is no hope in that. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Thanks for the reply as well, what you dont see in the picture is the ground wire wraps to the left under the carpet and is bolted to the frame on factory allthread spot.
