Rck'nRF Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Ok,i had to laugh a little because this just don't sound right for what Alpine calls for it's type S 15" sub concerning a sealed box; it says 1.34Cu.Ft..this sounds much to small an pathetic! Can someone please do the math on a rough measurment on what dimensions the above box would approx be (height/lenght/depth)? -- However,What does sound right to me is a box somewhere 27" long 18" wide 16" deep What cubic foot would that be? Much 'thx!
timc31610 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Your dimensions would yield about 3.53 ft3 net. I wouldn't put a single Type S 15 in that box. I think Alpine's box may be on the smaller side for better cone control. timc31610 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 16H x 16W x 12.5 D would net 1.34 ft3. Need to add a little for sub displacement. Rck'nRF Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Beaut answers!! Just one more for you; what would measurments for 2.15 Cu.ft be?
timc31610 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 I would recommend posting your maximum dimensions that you have to work with, the type of car you will put the sub in, how much power will the sub see, what type of music you will be listening to. I could throw out some numbers that would get you a box with that airspace but that doesn't mean it is correct for your application. Thanks, max > Lenght:32" Width: 18" Height: Not to picky here, but about 16" Going into a 1996 silverado extend cab, 98% of the time Trance bass type musc. Ok, throw somes numbers,i am not fussy on exacts.
timc31610 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 You are going to use a single Type S 15? On what amp? With those dimensions you have room for ported. A single to start, will add another 15"/box later in year. I'd like to stay sealed, but as mentioned, maybe my preferred box is to big for sealed? The amp i would be using will be a Power1000bd(2001) rated at over 500watts @ 4ohms.
timc31610 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 16" x 18" x 18" will get you about 2.1ft3 after sub displacement and allow you enough room to build a twin later and slide it along side. Still a little bigger than I would recommend. Is this the new 500 watt version type S? It is the newer 500watt RMS(1500max)Type-s, ya, kinda junky i know, i'lll go with something like DD/sundown when i can get cash to go that route) I still cannot get over how small these dimensions are for a sealed 15"inch subbox!! Seems so tight.. i remember when i first got into a bass system decades ago,and i threw a big sealed box into my back seat & it only had ONE 12"sub in it, it was close to 3Cu.Ft,but man oh man,it sounded SO GOOD and bumped bass with excellency, with authority and it was powered by a comical "Realsitc 80watx2 amp"..any thoughts on a sealed system like that and why a lowly single12 could manage so much sealed room?
