Knockoutpie Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Well guys I own a 2013 Camaro and though there's plenty of helpful people on there no one could point me to the right direction.. My issue is when my headlights are on, whether it be automatically turn on DRL (lower lights) or at night the top headlights and lower DRL lights, I get an annoying whine, more like a buzz through all my speakers, it's goes up in down in volume depending on how I set my gains. I've re ran all power cords so they're not near any signal wires, i've put new RCA cables in there, I had both Rockford twisted pair and Kicker Z series and they both buzzed until I changed to some nice Monster RCA's and the sound got cut in half. When the RCA's are unplugged the buzz goes away. I'm using a Gm Pac-44 device as a LOC type thing for my MyLink head unit, everything works perfectly find if my car is off with just battery on, no issues what so ever there. Let me show you my setup. I redid the ground, I'm not sure if It matters but I'm using a 4 position distribution block to ground all 3 wires to the amplifiers, when changing ground nothing got worse or better, all sounded the same, I wasn't using distribution block before. Really it's only when my headlights are on, I mean every time I get in my car I turn my lights off so I don't hear the buzz but that doesn't get rid of the alternator whine. Do you guys have any ideas what I can do to help fix the issue? It's not very loud, but it still drives me nuts. I've tried Ground Loop Iso's they don't work lol. Pic may show P1s4-10 but I changed them out to P3D2-10 Cleaned up the wires quite a bit, this is an older pic. Amp board showing all the gems, 2x Rockford R500x1d and 1x R400/4d Front Door Midrange speakers are PPs4-6 Rockfords Rear speakers are P1692 6x9 Rear Tweeters are basic 20 dollar sound streams and sound pretty nice I think. Installed the majority of this myself I don't think I did too many mistakes. I just remembered I used a Drl harness to turn on when my Headlights are on, going to go unplug that and see if it fixes my issue, because this buzz goes on when either my DRL's are on or my headlights because when my Headlights are on so are my DRL's, maybe be an issue with the plug but we'll see. -Unplugged the DRL's, same issue occurs. If anyone has ANY ideas, please help me out.
melvinhob Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 I'm no expert and I'm sure someone with more knowledge soon chime in but I had that exact same noise in one of my cars. The noise is usually between a ground problem somewhere or the rca's. My vehicle started when I grounded my equalizer and my head unit together, then when I gave my head unit a better ground the noise stopped. Also it could be a certain type of rca's that your amp needs(twisted or regular). Again I'm no expert, just my experience.

Right Lol i'm almost positive it's a ground somewhere for sure I am, I suppose on a day off here's I'll have to pull out my head unit and check for a ground somewhere, I didn't tap any wires at all in my car which was tricky but I managed to do it. So if there was a ground on it I left it the same. The Pac AA-gm 44 unit has 2 grounds, which you'll see on the right side of it with the RCA's there's a blue, lighter blue and a black wire. The black wire is a ground, the lighter blue wire is an optional ground, these are both grounded, to the same area. I thought if it's optional I'll cut it and see if it's causes the ground loop, but it wasn't. SO there is where I'm at a loss, i'm sure it's not the RCA cables, I've tried 5 different pairs by now. But if it's a ground I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll have to pull my HU out and see where the factory grounded it.
melvinhob Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 You said that it stops when you pull the rca's out the amp?
Knockoutpie Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Posted March 17, 2014 You said that it stops when you pull the rca's out the amp? Yes, stops when I pull them out of the amp or the LOC type device.
melvinhob Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Well at least you know your problem is somewhere before the signal gets to the amps because if it wasn't the noise would still continue after the rca's were pulled out.

Right so I know the RCA's and the Amplifer are both good, it's something up front that's causing the issue.
Guest Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 did you ground the LOC with the that black wire?
Knockoutpie Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Posted March 17, 2014 did you ground the LOC with the that black wire? LOL yes I did.
Agreene Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 ive had this problem before and i did everything you done...new rca's changed my ground etc.... i fixed it by running my ground from the rear to the front battery and having a ground to the engine block and one good ground to the frame.
