Jesse Faller Posted April 2, 2014 Report Posted April 2, 2014 My truck came with a dc engineering alt on it. Not sure what size amp it is. Think it's the 185 amp. Would this be a sufficient power supply for roughly 2000 watt rms system?
Kyblack76 Posted April 2, 2014 Report Posted April 2, 2014 First, A welcome to the best audio forum on the planet. Second, there are certain sections for questions. Like..Electrical/batt/alt area where this would go. It will help you get an answer better, if you land them in the "proper" spot. Third, what platform/vehicle is this in? If you have a true DC alt in it, and it is running as it should, IMHO youd have NO problem running said 2k. I may add a rear bat, depending on how low you wire down, but,...... If that is a true DC alt, IMHO youd be just fine. Again, welcome to the forum. SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
Rail Posted April 2, 2014 Report Posted April 2, 2014 Wouldn't hurt to have an extra battery hooked up. If you had 14.0 volts at the power terminal on the amp then 185 amps would allow for up to 2590 watts. ( 14*185 ) If your amp is putting out 2000 watts rms and is 80% efficient then it will draw about 2500 watts. ( 2000/.8 ) However your vehicle will also have other electrical draws on it. And you only get the rated output of the alternator at higher rpms, so a demo at idle might give you a bit of voltage drop.
