Hey people. Quick question here.. What happens when say you have a 2000 rms amp with an 80 amp fuse by the battery?? Does this mean (80amp x 12volts=960 rms) that only 960 rms will pass through that fuse??? That's ignoring effeciency ofcourse.

I'm also wondering the same thing, since I'm building doing a full rebuild on the wiring system now.

No. It means your amp will draw more than 90 amps and pop the fuse if the amp does rated, and if your electrical can provide that.

Take 2000 wrms and divide that by 14.4 and that puts you in the ballpark of what your amp will draw.

Never fuse any higher than what your wire is rated for.

Ok thanks why I'm asking is cause right now I'm running a sundown saz 3500d @ 2ohms with an 80 amp fuse in the front.. My amp is 2000rms @ 2ohms.. So in my case is the amp still producing 2000rms with that fuse??

Not a chance.

If your electrical can actually deliver above 90 amps to the alt, you will blow the fuse repeatedly. If your electrical cant provide that, then your amp will make what it can but bog down your electrical.

Volts x amps = watts. Multiply that by amplifier efficiency that gives you output. Remember music is dynamic so all this will be spiking and dropping.

14.4 x 90 = 1566

1566 x amp efficiency = max continuous power.

Thanks a lot. That's great info you gat right there. And in my case I have 4 gauge as my power cable. My car came with 4 gauge under the hood so not sure if I should upgrade the big 3 and power cable. I have a 90 amp alt but not upgrading that anytime soon. Ordering a 300 amp fuse soon though.
