efeerz Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Okay, so my friend just got a new car. He has a cheap little system. Some sort of 10" sub and a rocksford fosgate mono amp. Anyways he hooked it all up to his car seemingly fine. However the sub is getting a strange pulse interference from the car even when its off. It pulses like a heart beat with no volume or music playing. Also every electronic accessory when pressed in the car will make it pulse pretty hard. So what we checked so far.. When you unplug the RCA'S the pulsing stops. We checked all the grounds making sure they were very secure and in good places. Even tried re-locating the amplifier ground with no luck. Tried a different amplifier out of another car.. still the same problem. Tried a different pair of RCA'S running totally away from any electronic signal.. no luck. Also he doest have some stuff hooked up inside like a addon blue tooth device, a police scanner, and some LED lighting.. all pretty close to the head unit.. but I don't see how any of these would be causing this problem. Also forgot to mention.. it does play music fine and plays the bass notes to every song normally. and no the gain isn't all the way turned up lol.. Anyways that is all I can think of at the moment.. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be and how to fix this? Thanks.
thefourth Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Check to make sure that there are no wires that could be crossing by the fuel pump. Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do thatI can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.
hazestorm23 Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Do you have a way of checking with a different head unit? And have you tried disconnecting all the things around his headunit and then trying it out?
efeerz Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 There aren't any wires running close to the fuel pump, however we haven't been able to try a different head unit out yet. Just don't have a extra one currently. But we will try and get one to test today.
efeerz Posted May 3, 2014 Author Report Posted May 3, 2014 Okay guys, we fixed the problem. So it was the head unit causing it. Haha I'm guessing that the previous owner of the car didn't have a good enough ground to his amp or unplugged the ground or something while in use, and the amp tried to ground through the RCAS to the head unit messing it up. That's just what I'm guessing happened. Thanks for your responses guys. If you think it was something else that caused it let me know! I like to learn as much as possible.
