Keith77
Soak the cylinders with WD40 for a day or so.. Then rotate the engine over by hand Thats cool. Im way too old to be upset by shit like that. Your name is winston. Your own parents hated you even before you were born. My penis is bigger than your penis I'm far from loud and my roof/headliner flaps around like Adam's ass on a windy day. I think it depends more on the structure of the vehicle. scooter99
This has always been my favorite body style, hope you get everything up and running as good as new! Thank you, mine too. I hope I can get her running right again. Soak the cylinders with WD40 for a day or so.. Then rotate the engine over by hand Are you talking about to take care of the rust in them? I can't show you pictures right now because I can't do it on mobile, and I can't get facebook on my work computer. If you want to see them, go to my truck facebook page in my signature. There are 3 pictures that I posted last this morning. Those are what happened. I got all the crap out of there, leaves etc. So the rust in the cylinders are all that's left. Looks to be normal surface rust. I dont see an issue... What I would do is fill with wd40 and let it soak for a day or so. Then with a Scotch brite pad (I use the 3M red) would scrub and clean with that. What ever is left over will be cleaned off my the motor when running. After you clean up I would fill the cylinders with oil while you have the heads off. to prevent that from happening again. Thats cool. Im way too old to be upset by shit like that. scooter99
Ok so I just got some good news. I called the Machine shop that was recommended to me, and spoke with them about the heads. Sounds like an older style shop with some "good ol boys" in it. Just the way I felt when I was talking to him. Anyway, he said he would take both heads loaded, don't take them apart let them do it. They will check them for cracks, put them in some kind of bath, sorry I don't remember what he said. I think it started with an M. But, then machine them flat, clean everytrhing up, and put it all back together. They'll put the seals I have in them also. So if all that is all ok, no cracks, springs are fine, etc, then it'll only cost me about $160. I can't honestly believe that, but that's what he said. So I'll keep my fingers crossed and take them in tomorrow after work. If I can get them back at under $300 I'll be beyond exstatic!! I'm guessing I'll need to order some new head gaskets now after I know how much they take off of the heads. But oh well I guess. I also need to pick up an ultrasonic cleaner so I can do my injectors. I should have the rebuild parts in today or tomorrow. Hopefully things will start looking up here very very soon. scooter99
So lots more pics to come but this was the latest batch i said I'd put up that I never did. Sorry about that. Here you go. Smog shit, damn I wish I could just leave all this out. But I live in Nazifornia, so not going to happen. Lots more smog shit to remove to get to that valve cover. This bracket is bolted to the header. So the ground will come off and the bracket will come off as well from the header and I should be able to get it all out in one piece. Sparkplugs out, they're all getting replaced. #4 doesn't look so hot. Lots of these crimped clamps. They'll all get replaced with hose clamps. scooter99
Boom all out in one piece. Should make it easier to put back in too. Getting closer. Next is that engine lift bracket. Valve cover. I looked for new bolts for these, and ARP has them. I just don't know if I want to pay $15 per side for them. We'll see. I don't know if you all remember the other side, but this side is WAY worse. Wow. And resting in the holder I made with the other side rockers and rods. Right side is the passenger side that i just removed. They are way darker to me. These will all be cleaned well before going back in. scooter99
Time to remove the brackets in the back. I could beat the hell out of whoever thought it was a good idea to attach these brackets to the back of the heads!! AHOLE!!!! I was so mad about that, because it was a gigantic pain in the ass, I forgot to take pictures of removing the header bolts. So that was done. Recall they're Stage 8 bolts. Nice bolts for sure for these headers. The tabs prevent the bolts from backing out at all. No let's get this bad boy outta here! #4 valves were looking pretty rough. But there's for sure alot more burnt oil on this side vs the other side. Very interesting. #4 on the left there. This is the top corner of #4. The way it's sitting, the top is on the bottom and bottom on the top. Anyway, I may have had a gasket blow out here too. Looks like that on the gasket and here on the head. Finally went to Oreilly and got the new tools to get this fuel rail off. Then removed all the injectors. Those will be getting rebuilt and cleaned this weekend. And I learned my lesson and covered the block this time, with a towel and a plastic garbage bag. scooter99
This is why I said that. I didn't cover it last time, not knowing any better. I thought about it, but apparently didn't translate that into physical motion! LOL I got all of the leaves cleaned up and vacuumed up. I'll work on the cylinders this weekend. I got the heads back this Friday after being at the machine shop. This is the passenger side head. No issues with this one apparently despite all of the burnt oil we saw. Even cleaned up the intake ports. This is the driver side one. #7 is the second in from the right. Both valves needed replacing. But otherwise the rest was good. No cracks in either head btw. He didn't clean up the intake ports on this one, but I'll take care of that when I clean the rest of them. Also got some new ARP Head Bolts for them that were waiting on my front porch when I got home. So that's it for now. I have more from yesterday but I'll group them in with the rest of the weekends photos. Making progress! Slowly but it's progress.
