Ritch40 Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 working in winISD (now that i actually got it behaving) and i notice that with the PSI subs and the DC Audio subs i am looking at, winISD often comes up with a larger volume than what PSI or DC Audio spec out for those drivers. it ssems to often do this with both sealed and ported designs. can anyone answer why that is???? also, in winISD when working with ported enclosures, i see vent mach: what is this and is there an idea number i am looking for there? Thank you for taking the time to reply!!
Triticum Agricolam Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 The box specs WinISD gives you are for a maximally flat box in an open space. In a car things are a lot different. A box that is flat in a open area is going to have a very boosted low end in a car. For vent Mach you want to keep it under .1 and under .05 is a lot better. gr8handogoatness Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 I always thought it just picked random box sizes.
Triticum Agricolam Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 I always thought it just picked random box sizes. Lol, no but it certainly seems that way sometimes. The built in box alignments (SBB4, QB3, etc) are designs based on the T/S specs of the subs. They are good starting points for designs that will be used for applications other than car audio. Ritch40 Posted June 21, 2014 Author Report Posted June 21, 2014 is there anything i should be looking for on the graphs that will assist me in determining what will perform best in say a large cabin vs a smaller cabin space?
