Is an upgrade needed??

Hey guys. Got a mate running a sundown saz-2000d with a stock 90 amp alternator and a 70 aH battery up front with 1/0 gauge big 3.. Question: Is there need to upgrade electrical?? And if so how can this be done without changing the stock alternator??

you really cant beef up the electrical without an alternator.. you can add a battery but they will need to be charged daily

So when you say charged you mean off the car or with the alternator?? And will it be ok to add a similar battery to the one in front? (The current battery is about 6 months old)

you need to buy a battery charger. you can charge them while on the car.. only thing that sucks is once the battery reserve is gone your voltage will drop.. get an alternator. even a 180a will help

if the front battery is not AGM replace it and add a second in the rear.

Ok thanks a lot. We will try organize a bigger alt. I had an old mate who used to recoil alternators to higher amps. Will try ask him.. So how do I know that I am running low on power?? Is it when voltage starts to drop?? And what is the lower voltage danger zone

Yes when voltage drops. A 12v bat welt is completely dead at 10.5 iirc but I wouldn't wanna play and amp below 11v

Ok thanks for the info. Ama try get a voltmeter to watch the voltage. I have noticed when the bass hits hard especially low notes the coil starts to smell, it must be clipping due to the voltage drops
