Bump4life Posted June 25, 2014 Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 VCM has been a lil on the LACKING i must agree..... Ive never had up and down issues, but, my buttons have burst twice now..... What did you do for external reg dude? the blue box, and dial ? yep got the blue transpo box. mounted away from engine as much as I could, used big wiring, and I could never be happier, its holds the exact voltage I want, hot cold or anything in between. I also like it because if my internal regulator fails at a show because of high heat, id have to take off the alt to fix, with the external regulator it would be an easy fix. well, singer told me when I returned the alt (due to shipping issues, something for broke in it) he said the alt wont turn on without the vcm being plugged in. hes shipping me a new one, should be here by tomorrow because i ordered a red, but xs sent him all blue. hopefully that works i just dont see how thats possible. the vcm is not a regulator. its tricks the regulator on the alternator. unless something came loose in the vcm, but i still dont see how that effects the internal reg on the alt. Now this problem which I think may be the VCM. It'll go into adj but when I press up or down it doesn't do anything. truthsayer Posted June 26, 2014 Report Share Posted June 26, 2014 the vcm controls the alt. alt wont turn on without the vcm in. the vcm does not control the alt. the alt will turn on still without vcm plugged in. all the vcm does is trick the internal regulator to put out more voltage by adjusting sense wire. I had just turned my vcm in on warranty because whenever Iturned my vcm on, it would cause alt to turn off. sounds like a faulty unit. i switched to external regulation instead of the xs vcm adn have never looked back. i had too many issues with the vcm including the car starting at 16.2 plus in the winter and shutting my car off. the vcm is a cool idea but in my opinion a bad way to adjust voltage for a few reasons mainly being temperature.
