I have a 2003 Ford explorer 4.0. I'm not sure what my stock alternator current amps are but i'm thinking about upgrading to a mechman 270 amp alternator made for my truck. If I do i'm going to do the big 3/4 forsure but how much of a improvement should I see after? Also what kind of batteries should I have? Front and possibly back? I have 2 15' L7s which were running on a power acustik 5500 bamf but I sold that amp because it sucked compared to the kicker zx 2500 which I just recently bought again. So as of right now I have a kicker zx.2500 running to the l7s. Extreme dimming and I know its not pushing what it should be. I also have a custom box 11 cubic feet tuned at 32hz. Please help, i'm looking to upgrade here in the next few days. !!

You should see a big improvement, if you upgrade to that 270 alt, big 3, good agm battery under the hood and another in the back.

Assuming you have a mids and highs amp, and you're amps are like 80% efficient, you're looking at around a 300amp peak draw. Not completely exact, music is music, but with that Mechman 270, you shouldn't have any voltage issues at all(especially cruising at 2k rpm) if you do a good Big 3 in something like SkyHigh 2/0, a solid AGM battery under hood, and a solid axillary battery in the rear.

Here's a link to a recent test of group 31 AGM batteries commonly used in car audio, from one of the most knowledgeable guys in the hobby. Worth a read.

Results and prices, WELL worth the read for the novice and experienced car audio follower.

the kicker amp is better than your old PA amp because the kicker does twice what the PA can do.

kicker will do like 3000w at 2 ohms, and PA does like 1500 at 1 LOL.

dc power or mechman alt will work fine for up to like 5k.
