Which component is causing this...?

Recommended Posts

if you have tools you can build it yourself for $50.

i do but i'm not sure what a suitable tuning hz or size would be? I know 1.5cu ft is advised but idk hz

1.5 cubic feet net. which means after the displacement the port and sub takes up. so empty would be around 2 cubes maybe a little more.

for tuning, low-mid 30's will likely work fine.

for 1.5 cubic feet of space, you need about 20 square inches of port area. that means the opening where the port is. width times height = port area. port depth determines tuning.

so, just for reference, you do advise that i do switch to a ported box though?

you already have a ported box. but it looks like a prefabs and prefabs dont suit any woofer.

so I need one specifically made for my subwoofer?

Would prefab vs. specific for it make a big difference?

yeah. prefabs are usually small and have tiny ports tuned high as hell.

that alone makes sense. Mine is not nearly as low as it should be

box seems to be too small i had a mofo on a 3 cubic feet box on about 1000 rms and it was pretty loud it sure got stinky but it was still pretty loud.

i've noticed that mine also has it's own smell. It doesnt smell like its burning but it has a smell somehow

The pics of that box sort of confirmed my suspicions.

Not like any part of that is great but a new box would be your best upgrade from where you're sitting.

I'd make the box more like 2.5 cube then you can at least drop a good woofer in there for your next upgrade. 1.5 cube ported just doesn't cut it and that's a number the "manufacturer" pulled out of their arse to convince rookies that they can fit more woofers in too small of a space.
